Welcome to AnimeHistory.org

Welcome back to the internet that should have existed.

AnimeHistory.org is a community dedicated to preserving and celebrating classic anime from the era before algorithms decided what you should watch, before corporations monetized passion, before the community that built the market got sold it back at $7.99 a month.

This is for the people who remember 2am downloads, fan translations, topsites, custom forum signatures, and shoutboxes.

Rebuke the future.

So I've been going down a rabbit hole lately and I wanted to share it here because this community gets it.

Started rewatching Dragon Ball Z last week - not the Funimation version, the Seed of Might remaster. If you haven't seen SoM yet, I don't know what you're waiting for. The color correction alone is worth it. This is what DBZ was supposed to look like.

Got me thinking about the old fansub era. Back when the only way to watch Naruto or FMA was through a fansub group posting to IRC. No streaming. No official release. Just dedicated fans doing the work because nobody else was going to do it.

Team Four Star basically built their entire career on that same spirit - taking something they loved and creating something new with it. TFS proved that fan creativity wasn't just a phase.

Speaking of which, if you want to support the official release side of things, there are ways to do that now that didn't exist back then. But let's be honest - the fansubs built the audience that made those official releases possible in the first place.

Also rewatched some Fullmetal Alchemist this week. Brotherhood holds up insanely well. And I finally got around to Bubblegum Crisis which had been on my list forever - the 80s aesthetic is incredible.

Don't even get me started on Gundam Wing. That show deserves its own thread.

Anyway - glad AnimeHistory exists. This is the kind of place the internet used to have more of.
