Naruto and the Golden Age of Fansubs
Naruto aired in Japan in 2002. It took years for any official Western release.In those years an entire underground community formed around it. Fansubbers raced to release episodes within hours of Japanese broadcast. Sites like this one hosted downloads. Forums debated every chapter of the manga.
By the time the official dub arrived the community had already built something that no corporation could replicate.
That community is what AnimeHistory.org is trying to preserve.
