Details & Synopsis
Yuji Kaido wakes up from cryogenic sleep to find the world he knew is gone. While he was under, Earth was overrun by the Blue, massive insectoid creatures that appeared without warning and dismantled human civilization in a generation. What remains of humanity has retreated to a space station called Second Earth, sending small recovery teams back down to the surface. Yuji is one of their targets. Marlene Angel is the soldier sent to retrieve him.

Produced by AIC ASTA and directed by Masashi Abe, Blue Gender aired on TV Tokyo in 1999 and ran for 26 episodes. It is a survival horror mecha series that earns its darkness, the Blue are genuinely terrifying, the losses are real, and Yuji's psychological deterioration across the series is handled with a seriousness the genre rarely manages. This is not a show about a chosen hero learning to fight. It is a show about what war does to a person who was never supposed to be in one.

The nudity and violence are not incidental. They are part of a deliberate refusal to make any of this comfortable. Blue Gender wants you to feel the weight of a world that has already lost.

A theatrical film, Blue Gender: The Warrior, recaps and recuts the series. Skip it. Watch the series. The ending will stun you.

BLUE Infestation & Second Earth

The BLUE Insectoid Extinction Event

In July 2031, a massive, predatory species known as the "BLUE" emerged, rapidly consuming human biomass across Earth. Highly adaptable with impenetrable chitinous armor, the BLUE forced surviving remnants of humanity to flee into low-Earth orbit aboard the space station "Second Earth."

Second Earth High Command & High-Tech Fascism

Military Oligarchy · Human Conditioning
A massive space station sanctuary housing millions of survivors. Governed by a cold, utilitarian High Command, Second Earth treats human citizens as replaceable military assets, brainwashing soldiers like Marlene Angel to execute missions without emotional attachment.

Armored Shrike Bipedal Units

High-Mobility Mech · Anti-BLUE Autocannons
The primary human mechanized defense force. Armored Shrikes are agile, bipedal combat suits equipped with heavy autocannons, anti-armor launchers, and pneumatic spikes. Despite their firepower, Shrikes are highly vulnerable to swarm tactics and acid attacks.

Double-Bored Autocannon & Mech-Pikes

Heavy Kinetic Ordnance · Anti-Chitin Weapons
Armored Shrikes rely on extreme physical force to pierce BLUE armor. Their main weapons are double-barreled high-caliber cannons firing depleted uranium rounds, alongside hydraulic Mech-Pikes designed to punch through dense exoskeleton plates.

Dice Quaid & Rick (Transport Crew)

Roughneck Veterans · Overland Logistics
Roughneck transport drivers who pilot armored land-cruisers across the hazardous wilderness. Dice provides cynical wisdom and practical survival skills, acting as a father figure to Yuji before falling during a BLUE ambush.
