Ichigo Kurosaki has always been able to see ghosts, but his life changes when Soul Reaper Rukia Kuchiki enters his bedroom while hunting a Hollow. When Fishbone D attacks the Kurosaki home and leaves Rukia badly wounded, Ichigo takes her power to protect his family and becomes a Soul Reaper himself. The transfer gives him far more power than Rukia expected, leaving both of them stuck with a situation neither planned for.
Rukia enrolls in Ichigo's class and explains that losing most of her power means he now has to handle her Soul Reaper work in Karakura Town. Ichigo resists being drafted into somebody else's duty until a Hollow attacks the spirit of a young boy and forces him to choose whether he can really ignore people he is able to save. By the end, he still hates being ordered around, but he accepts the job on his own terms.
Orihime Inoue is attacked by the Hollow Acidwire, who is revealed to be the corrupted spirit of her dead older brother Sora. His jealousy over Orihime moving forward with her life has twisted the love that once kept them together, and Ichigo hesitates when he realizes the monster still contains the person she remembers. Orihime reaches Sora long enough for him to regain himself, and he chooses to let Ichigo send him peacefully to Soul Society.
Chad takes in a parrot whose previous owners have all suffered bizarre accidents, unaware that the bird carries the soul of a murdered boy named Yuichi Shibata. The Hollow Shrieker has been tormenting Yuichi for years by killing anyone who tries to protect him, and Chad becomes its newest target despite being unable to see the creature clearly. Rukia arrives to help, but Shrieker's real game is only beginning.
Rukia guides Chad through a fight against Shrieker while Chad can barely perceive the Hollow attacking him. Ichigo arrives and learns that Shrieker was a murderer even before death, which changes what happens when he is defeated. Instead of being cleansed and sent to Soul Society, Shrieker is dragged through the Gates of Hell, while Yuichi is finally freed from the parrot and allowed to move on.
Rukia buys Ichigo a Soul Candy so he can leave his body without her help, only to discover the pill contains an illegal Mod Soul created for combat. The artificial soul takes over Ichigo's body, enjoys its enhanced speed and strength, and immediately starts causing trouble at school while Ichigo chases him in Soul Reaper form. Their fight is interrupted by a Hollow, forcing Ichigo and the runaway Mod Soul to fight on the same side.
Ichigo and the Mod Soul defeat the Hollow together, and Ichigo refuses to let Urahara dispose of the artificial soul as defective merchandise. He hides it inside a stuffed lion and names him Kon, giving the abandoned Mod Soul a place in the Kurosaki household whether either of them likes it or not. At the same time, Soul Society begins moving against Rukia for illegally giving her powers to a human.
On the anniversary of Masaki Kurosaki's death, Ichigo visits her grave with his family and carries the guilt that he caused the accident that killed her. Rukia is confronted by the Soul Reaper sent to investigate her absence, but the encounter is interrupted when Karin and Yuzu are targeted by a powerful Hollow. Ichigo recognizes the lure hanging from its head and realizes the creature is connected to the day his mother died.
Grand Fisher reveals that it uses the shape of people its victims love to lure them close, including the image of Ichigo's mother. Ichigo attacks in a rage and finally understands that Grand Fisher, not his own childhood mistake, was responsible for Masaki's death. He wounds the Hollow but cannot finish it before it escapes, leaving Ichigo with the truth he wanted and none of the closure he expected.
Television spirit medium Don Kanonji brings his live show to Karakura Town and starts tampering with a Plus whose Chain of Fate is already deteriorating. His enthusiastic 'exorcism' pushes the spirit into becoming a Hollow in front of a packed audience, leaving Ichigo to contain a disaster nobody else can see. Kanonji is shaken when he learns what he actually caused, and Ichigo gives him just enough encouragement to keep helping spirits without pretending he understands everything.
Ichigo discovers that quiet classmate Uryu Ishida can see spirits and belongs to the Quincy, a line of human archers who destroy Hollows rather than cleanse them. Uryu openly despises Soul Reapers and challenges Ichigo to see who can kill the most Hollows, scattering bait that draws far more creatures into Karakura than either expected. What begins as a rivalry quickly becomes a threat to everyone around them.
The Hollow swarm spreads across Karakura and forces Chad to protect Karin even though he still cannot fully see what is attacking them. Under pressure, Chad's spiritual power finally takes shape as armored strength around his right arm, giving him the ability to strike the creature directly. Elsewhere, the scale of Uryu's challenge becomes impossible to contain as more Hollows continue pouring into town.
Orihime and Tatsuki are attacked at school as the Hollow outbreak reaches Ichigo's friends. Orihime's desire to protect Tatsuki awakens the Shun Shun Rikka hidden within the hairpins Sora gave her, giving form to a power she never knew she possessed. Afterward, Urahara takes both Orihime and Chad in so they can begin understanding the abilities that have suddenly become part of their lives.
Ichigo and Uryu are forced to fight back-to-back as the Hollows drawn by Uryu's bait overwhelm Karakura Town. Their argument stops mattering when a Menos Grande tears open the sky, a class of Hollow so enormous that even Rukia is stunned to see one in the Human World. Ichigo drives it back with a reckless surge of spiritual power, and Uryu has to bleed off the excess energy before Ichigo destroys himself with it.
Kon runs away from the Kurosaki house convinced that life will improve if he finds girls who appreciate him, only to discover that his personality follows him wherever he goes. Ichigo meanwhile makes an awkward attempt to befriend Uryu after their fight, while Rukia grows increasingly worried that Soul Society will punish Ichigo for helping her. Rather than keep putting him at risk, she slips away alone just as the people sent to arrest her arrive.
Ichigo finds Rukia confronted by Lieutenant Renji Abarai, a Soul Reaper from her past who has come to take her back to Soul Society. Renji releases Zabimaru and overwhelms Ichigo with a level of swordsmanship and spiritual pressure far beyond the Hollows he has been fighting. Ichigo refuses to back down, but the arrival of Renji's captain, Byakuya Kuchiki, makes clear how far out of his depth he really is.
Ichigo turns the fight around on Renji by releasing a burst of spiritual power, only for Byakuya to end the battle before Renji falls. Byakuya cuts through Ichigo so quickly he can barely follow the attack, destroys the source of the Soul Reaper power Rukia gave him, and leaves him dying in the street. Rukia agrees to return to Soul Society to save Ichigo's life, and Urahara later offers Ichigo one chance to regain enough power to rescue her.
With Rukia gone, almost everyone at school has forgotten she ever existed, confirming how completely Soul Society has removed her from Ichigo's ordinary life. Urahara begins brutal training by forcing Ichigo out of his body and cutting his Chain of Fate, then drops him into a pit with three days to recover his own Soul Reaper powers before he becomes a Hollow. Yoruichi separately begins training Chad and Orihime so they can join the rescue.
Ichigo's Chain of Fate finishes corroding in Urahara's pit and his transformation into a Hollow begins for real. Inside his own consciousness he meets Zangetsu, the spirit tied to the Soul Reaper power that was always his rather than something borrowed entirely from Rukia. Ichigo breaks out of the pit wearing a Hollow mask but with his Soul Reaper form restored, then immediately moves into the final stage of Urahara's training.
Ichigo faces Urahara and learns that knowing the name Zangetsu is the key to finally releasing his own Zanpakuto. He calls that name, unleashes Zangetsu's true form, and lands the attack Urahara demanded of him, completing the training needed for Soul Society. With Chad and Orihime finishing under Yoruichi and Uryu preparing on his own, the group enters Urahara's gate together to bring Rukia home.
Soul Society: The Sneak Entry Arc

Ichigo, Uryu, Orihime, Chad, and Yoruichi pass through Urahara's gate and survive the Dangai to reach Soul Society, only to emerge outside the walls of the Seireitei. At the western gate, giant guardian Jidanbo blocks their way until Ichigo defeats him and earns his respect. Jidanbo opens the gate for them, but Captain Gin Ichimaru is waiting on the other side and knocks both him and Ichigo back out into Rukongai.
Ichigo's group meets Ganju Shiba, a hotheaded resident of Rukongai who openly hates Soul Reapers and immediately picks a fight with Ichigo. After their brawl is interrupted, Yoruichi leads the rescue party to Ganju's older sister Kukaku, the fireworks expert who can launch them over the Seireitei walls. Ganju is furious when he realizes he may have to help Soul Reapers, but Rukia's execution leaves no time for old grudges.
Rukia is informed that her execution has been moved forward, cutting the rescue party's already short deadline nearly in half. Inside the Seireitei, Renji begins questioning why her punishment is so severe while Aizen quietly raises the same concern with other officers. Outside the walls, Kukaku agrees to help Ichigo's group and begins preparing them for the dangerous cannon launch that will be their only way inside.
The captains of the Thirteen Court Guard Companies are summoned after Gin's encounter with the Ryoka, giving Ichigo's group its first indirect look at the people who rule the Seireitei. Tension immediately surfaces among the captains, especially around Gin and the strange circumstances surrounding Rukia's execution. Back at Kukaku's home, Ichigo and Ganju struggle to form the spirit shell needed to survive being fired through the Seireitei barrier.
Kukaku puts the group through a final round of training before loading everyone into her enormous fireworks cannon. Ichigo has trouble controlling the spiritual energy around the projectile, forcing the others to compensate while Ganju complains about being dragged into the rescue at all. The launch succeeds, but the Seireitei barrier destabilizes their spirit shell and turns a carefully planned entrance into a barely controlled crash.
The rescue party breaks apart over the Seireitei, scattering everyone into separate sections of enemy territory. Ichigo lands with Ganju, a pairing neither of them wanted, and the two immediately begin arguing while squads of Soul Reapers close in. Their attempt to move toward Rukia's prison forces them to cooperate, while Orihime, Uryu, Chad, and Yoruichi each begin their own routes through the city.
Ichigo and Ganju run into members of the Eleventh Division, and Ichigo stays behind to fight Ikkaku Madarame while Ganju keeps moving. Ikkaku releases Hozukimaru and pushes Ichigo into his first serious Zanpakuto duel inside Soul Society, but Ichigo adapts and defeats him without killing him. Impressed by Ichigo's strength, Ikkaku tells him where Rukia is being held and warns him that Captain Kenpachi Zaraki will come looking for a fight.
Orihime and Uryu are cornered by Jirobo Ikkanzaka, a Soul Reaper who attacks with a cloud of flying blades and quickly decides Orihime is the easier target. Uryu takes that personally and dismantles Jirobo's weapons with precise Quincy shots before destroying the spiritual points that let him fight as a Soul Reaper. Orihime sees just how dangerous Uryu can become when someone threatens the people traveling with him.
The Seireitei locks down as the Gotei 13 spreads word of the intruders and sends squads through the streets to capture them. Ichigo and Ganju meet Hanataro Yamada, a nervous Fourth Division Soul Reaper who knows the underground passages and, more importantly, genuinely wants Rukia saved. Elsewhere, Orihime and Uryu steal Soul Reaper uniforms to move more freely, while the rescue mission becomes a citywide manhunt.
Renji finds Ichigo before he can reach Rukia and demands a rematch, furious that a human has come this far into Soul Society for her. Zabimaru is far stronger than it was in Karakura, and Renji's knowledge of the Seireitei lets him control the fight early. Ichigo refuses to retreat, remembering everything Urahara forced him to learn and deciding that reaching Rukia matters more than the difference in their rank or experience.
Ichigo and Renji drive each other to exhaustion as their duel becomes less about arresting an intruder and more about which of them is willing to stake everything on Rukia. Ichigo finally breaks through Renji's rhythm and lands the decisive strike, leaving the lieutenant badly wounded in the street. Unable to rescue Rukia himself, Renji grabs Ichigo before collapsing and begs him to do what Renji never had the courage to do: save her.
As Renji lies wounded, his memories return to growing up with Rukia in the poorest districts of Rukongai and entering the Soul Reaper academy beside her. Their bond changed when Rukia was adopted into the Kuchiki family and Renji, convinced he needed to become worthy of standing beside her, let her walk away instead of asking her to stay. His loss to Ichigo finally forces him to admit that pride has kept him from the one thing he wanted most.
Back in Karakura Town, Kon is left to deal with Hollow attacks while Ichigo and the others are away in Soul Society. Don Kanonji recruits him, Karin, Jinta, and Ururu into a homemade spirit-fighting team, complete with costumes and far more enthusiasm than planning. The ridiculous group actually manages to protect the town, giving the Soul Society story a brief anime-original break before returning to the rescue.
Renji's defeat sends the Seireitei into a higher state of alert while Ichigo, Ganju, and Hanataro continue toward Rukia's prison through the underground passages. Among the Gotei 13, Hinamori becomes increasingly uneasy about the hostility between Aizen and Gin after Aizen quietly warns her to be careful. At dawn she finds Aizen's body pinned high against a wall, turning the Ryoka invasion into an internal crisis the captains can no longer ignore.
Hinamori is devastated by Aizen's apparent murder and immediately turns her suspicion toward Gin, attacking him before Izuru Kira intervenes on his captain's behalf. Hitsugaya stops the lieutenants from killing one another and warns Gin that if Hinamori is harmed, he will personally kill him. While the Gotei 13 begins fracturing under suspicion, Ichigo's rescue party keeps moving through a Seireitei that is now hunting threats both outside and within.
Kenpachi Zaraki finally catches Ichigo's spiritual trail and moves toward him with Yachiru on his shoulder, eager to meet the intruder who defeated Ikkaku and Renji. Ichigo can feel Kenpachi's spiritual pressure before he even sees him, and Hanataro and Ganju are nearly overwhelmed by it. Ichigo sends them ahead toward Rukia and stays behind, choosing to face a captain whose presence alone makes every previous opponent feel small.
Chad fights his way deeper into the Seireitei and defeats several Soul Reapers before meeting Captain Shunsui Kyoraku. Shunsui repeatedly offers him a chance to walk away, but Chad refuses because helping Ichigo save Rukia is the promise that brought him this far. The gap between them is enormous: Shunsui defeats Chad with a single serious strike, while elsewhere Ichigo begins his own battle against Kenpachi.
Ichigo discovers that he cannot even cut Kenpachi at first, while Kenpachi can tear through him without releasing a Zanpakuto at all. When Zangetsu is broken and Ichigo begins to lose consciousness, he is pulled into his inner world and forced to confront how poorly he understands the sword he has been treating as a tool. Zangetsu sends him back with another chance, but Kenpachi is waiting and enjoying the fight more than ever.
Ichigo returns to the battle able to wound Kenpachi, finally giving the captain the dangerous fight he has been craving. Kenpachi removes the eyepatch that has been consuming his spiritual pressure, while Ichigo puts everything he has into one final strike with Zangetsu. Their blades collide and both men fall, ending the duel without a clean victory but proving that Ichigo can stand against a captain and survive.
Yachiru carries the defeated Kenpachi away and remembers the day the nameless swordsman found her as a child, gave her a name, and took the name Zaraki Kenpachi for himself. Ganju and Hanataro finally reach Rukia's prison, but Ganju freezes when he recognizes her as the Soul Reaper connected to his brother Kaien's death. Rukia admits that she killed Kaien and makes no attempt to defend herself, just before Byakuya arrives to stop the rescue.
Byakuya cuts down Ganju and is about to finish him when Ichigo arrives, wounded but alive after his fight with Kenpachi. Ichigo finally sees Rukia again, and their reunion immediately turns into the familiar argument Rukia uses to hide how relieved she is that he survived. Ichigo then challenges Byakuya, but Yoruichi interrupts before the fight can become another execution and carries Ichigo away, promising that he can surpass Byakuya if he gives her three days.

Back in Karakura after rescuing Rukia, Ichigo is trying to settle into school again when Renji suddenly appears in the Human World and becomes impossible to explain away quietly. Orihime then vanishes after dreaming about her brother, and a mysterious group begins watching Ichigo's friends from the shadows. What first feels like a return to normal immediately turns into a new kidnapping.
Ichigo, Renji, Uryu, and Chad search for Orihime after her disappearance and receive instructions from an unknown girl claiming Orihime will return home at eight. The Orihime they find is an impostor, and before the group can work out the trick, Chad is taken as well. The kidnappers make it clear they are testing Ichigo's group rather than simply trying to kill them.
The kidnappers summon Ichigo, Renji, and Uryu to a museum that transforms into a looping maze of illusions and traps. Frustration nearly splits the three apart until Uryu notices the rules governing the false corridors and works out a way through. They escape only to discover their opponents are Modified Souls, while Orihime and Chad remain captive.
The Modified Souls announce another game: someone in Ichigo's group has been replaced, and if they do not identify the impostor by noon, their classmates will disappear. Suspicion spreads quickly, with Ichigo even turning on Renji before Tatsuki vanishes and the threat becomes real. The group identifies the fake Chad too late to stop the kidnappers from taking the rest of the students.
Ichigo and the others enter the Modified Souls' final game with Chad trapped inside a giant hourglass and only minutes to save him. Ichigo breaks the trap, only to learn that Urahara organized the entire ordeal as training and to force the group to confront Uryu's loss of Quincy power. At the same time, Yoruichi and Soi Fon encounter the real threat behind the strange soul disappearances: humans known as Bounts.
Urahara explains that the Bounts are long-lived humans who survive by consuming souls and fight through beings called Dolls. Lirin, Noba, and Kurodo are assigned to help track them, leading Ichigo's group to Yoshino Soma and Ryo Udagawa. Ichigo fights Yoshino and her fire Doll Goethe, getting his first direct look at what the Bounts can do.
Rukia returns to Karakura just in time to save Ichigo from Goethe, reuniting the group that fought together before Soul Society. Yoshino is pulled out of the fight by Udagawa, who later begins feeding openly on living souls. As Ichigo's friends move against him, Yoshino breaks from Kariya's Bount faction and becomes a target herself.
Udagawa captures Uryu because Kariya needs a Quincy to open a route into Soul Society, but Yoshino turns against her own people and takes Uryu away. Udagawa attacks with his snake-like Doll, only to retreat when Ururu unexpectedly overwhelms him with heavy firepower. Yoshino then tells Uryu what Kariya actually wants from him, making his lost Quincy powers central to the Bount plan.
Ichigo's group locates Uryu at a hospital and walks straight into a trap set by the twin Bounts Ho and Ban. Their water Dolls flood the building and try to drown Uryu before Ichigo cuts through them and forces an escape. While Chad and the others move Uryu to safety, Ichigo and Renji stay behind to fight the twins.
Ho and Ban push their water Dolls into Ichigo, Renji, and Rukia's bodies, trying to tear them apart from the inside while the others struggle to protect Uryu. Ganju and Hanataro arrive from Soul Society, and Ganju's fireworks finally destroy the Dolls and kill the twins. The victory lasts only a moment before everyone realizes Uryu has disappeared again.
Uryu meets Yoshino again and hears how immortality has slowly warped the Bounts, leaving many of them isolated, bitter, and desperate for a future. Kariya gathers the surviving Bounts around the promise that a Quincy will finally open the way to Soul Society. In Seireitei, Kenpachi learns that former Eleventh Division member Maki Ichinose is alive and has allied himself with Kariya.
Koga captures Yoshino and Uryu with the help of his Doll Dalk and brings them to Kariya's mansion. Kariya tries to win Uryu over by presenting the Bount and Quincy as fellow victims of Soul Society, while Ichigo tracks the group to their hideout. Back in Seireitei, Mayuri confirms that someone inside Soul Society erased the old Bount records, putting suspicion on the returned Ichinose.
Ichigo, Rukia, and the Modified Souls enter Kariya's mansion looking for Uryu and immediately run into resistance. Udagawa turns on Kariya and tries to seize power for himself, but Ichinose kills him before the betrayal can go anywhere. Ichinose then faces Ichigo and explains why Kenpachi's rise drove him away from the Gotei 13.
Ichinose tells Ichigo how he served the previous Eleventh Division captain and tried to kill Kenpachi after Kenpachi defeated and replaced him. His failure left him disillusioned with Soul Society, making Kariya's cause easy for him to embrace. Kariya then enters the fight himself and overwhelms Ichigo so completely that Yoruichi is forced to pull him out and retreat.
Mayuri finally shares Soul Society's buried history of the Bounts with the captains, including the old conflict with the Quincy and the danger of Bounts feeding on living souls. In Karakura, Ichigo is shaken by how badly Kariya defeated him and starts losing focus. Renji and Ganju refuse to let him sink into self-pity, forcing Ichigo to remember why he is still fighting.
Yoshino fuses with Goethe to gain enough power to challenge Kariya directly, knowing she may not survive the attempt. Kariya defeats and kills her, then uses what remains of her to create Bitto, insect-like creatures that can harvest human souls in bulk. Her death turns the Bount conflict from a hidden struggle into a threat to everyone in Karakura.
With no immediate Bount sighting, Urahara sends Renji to investigate while Ichigo stays behind with Lirin, Noba, and Kurodo to think up defenses. The Modified Souls decide to prank Ichigo by dressing as Bounts, but Rukia takes the threat seriously and chases them across town. The comedy gives the group one brief breather before the Bitto assault begins in earnest.
The Bitto spread through Karakura, draining living humans into dust and returning the concentrated souls to the Bounts. Kira arrives in time to stop Dalk from killing Ichigo, using Wabisuke to make the metal Doll too heavy to move before confronting Koga. Elsewhere, Yoshi pushes Rukia and Orihime back until Mabashi joins the fight. His Doll Ritz enters Rukia's soul and takes control of her body, turning one of Ichigo's closest allies into a weapon against the group.
Mabashi forces the possessed Rukia to attack Orihime, who refuses to hurt the friend she once crossed Soul Society to save. Hisagi arrives ready to kill Rukia if that is the only way to stop Ritz, but Orihime uses her own power to pull the Doll out of Rukia's soul. Hisagi destroys Ritz, while Ichinose arrives in time to get Mabashi away.
Rangiku joins Chad, Ururu, and Noba against Sawatari and Baura, a Doll able to move through solid ground by slipping into another dimension. Baura swallows Ururu and repeatedly disappears before anyone can land a clean hit, forcing Rangiku to use herself as bait. Chad finally knocks Baura into Noba's range, but Sawatari survives the dimensional trap and leaves Noba badly injured.
Noba uses the last of his strength to help Rangiku and Chad locate Sawatari, allowing Chad to force Baura to release Ururu. In Soul Society, Mayuri recovers the lost Bount data and secretly sends Nemu to Uryu with an item that may restore his ability to fight. Another intruder reaches Seireitei, prompting Yamamoto to summon Byakuya as the crisis begins shifting back toward Soul Society.
With the Karakura battles ending, the Soul Reapers pursue the Bounts into their underground hideout and are separated by Ugaki's Doll Gesell. The shadow-based creature picks the lieutenants off one at a time while Ichigo and Renji race deeper into the cave. Back in Soul Society, Yamamoto orders Byakuya to search the Kuchiki records for anything that can explain the Bounts' past.
Ichigo and Renji learn that Gesell can attack through any shadow, including their own, and nearly fall into Ugaki's trap before Kira and Hisagi arrive. Uryu, meanwhile, is confronted by Nemu, who confirms that his Quincy powers are truly gone. Kenpachi takes over Ichinose's fight and sends Hitsugaya onward to deal with Kariya. Ichinose uses Nijigasumi to trap Kenpachi inside a sphere of blinding light, but Kenpachi simply removes his eyepatch and tears through the technique with raw spiritual pressure. Still unable to let go of his old captain, Ichinose makes one final attack and is cut down.
Kariya uses the angry residents of Kusajishi to enter Seireitei, then kills them the moment they stop being useful to him. The Bounts split up to target the captains, while Mabashi sends Ritz into Soul Reapers and turns them against their own divisions. Soi Fon moves to contain the outbreak and is struck by a Bitto carrying a powerful poison.

Uryu's temporary Quincy accessory gives him enough power to fight Yoshi, but its unstable output makes every shot difficult to control. Yoshi shifts her Doll Nieder between offensive and defensive forms while Uryu searches for an opening. At the same time, Kariya breaks into the Research and Development Institute, finds the Jokaisho, and fuses with it to gain the power he needs for his final plan.
Uryu realizes Yoshi cannot attack and defend at the same time and uses that weakness to land a decisive shot, finally defeating her despite the instability of his borrowed Quincy power. Koga meanwhile confronts Kariya and rejects the plan to destroy Soul Society outright. Kariya wounds him and leaves, while Hitsugaya senses Koga after he fights off pursuing Soul Reapers.
Hitsugaya confronts Koga and quickly freezes Dalk, forcing Koga to fuse the Doll's remains into an axe and continue alone. Koga keeps healing by absorbing spirit particles, but his body begins rejecting the energy faster than he can use it. Hitsugaya releases Bankai and wins the fight, while Koga collapses still clinging to the hope that the Bounts might someday live without war.
With Koga apparently defeated, Soul Society turns its attention to the Jokaisho Kariya has fused into his body. After Kariya's death, Ichigo, Rukia, and Renji look back on the choices that brought each of them to this point and on how their lives changed when Ichigo became a Soul Reaper. Yoruichi reveals that Koga survived his fight with Hitsugaya and brings him to Rantao, where he accepts that the Bount line will eventually disappear. Ichigo's group finally returns to Karakura as a new figure arrives in town, closing the anime-original war and reconnecting the story to what comes next.

In the present, the Arrancar invasion continues around them while Ikkaku refuses to regret nearly dying for that life.
Hitsugaya battles Shawlong Koufang but finds himself badly outmatched because Soul Society has placed limiters on the captains and lieutenants operating in the Human World. Rangiku and Renji face the same problem against their opponents as the Arrancar press their advantage. Once permission arrives to release the restrictions, Hitsugaya's full spiritual pressure changes the fight instantly.
With their limiters removed, Hitsugaya's team finishes the Arrancar who invaded Karakura, but Ichigo's battle with Grimmjow is different. Hitsugaya reports to Soul Society after the Arrancar attack and explains that Aizen is using the Hogyoku to create an army stronger than ordinary Hollows or Soul Reapers. Ikkaku is recruited to coach Keigo's school kendo team after its best fighters are injured before an important match. His idea of instruction is exactly what anyone who knows the Eleventh Division would expect: relentless training, intimidation, and no sympathy. The students eventually learn enough to stand for themselves, while Ikkaku enjoys having an excuse to turn school sports into combat.
Yumichika becomes involved with a pastry shop and immediately treats baking as another arena in which beauty and technique must be perfect. His obsession with presentation clashes with the practical demands of actually serving customers and helping the people who run the shop. The elegant Fifth Seat somehow manages to make cake decorating feel like a matter of personal honor.
Kon believes his luck with women has finally changed when he meets a girl who seems genuinely interested in him. Rangiku sees through the situation much faster and follows him, convinced something is wrong. Kon's romantic fantasy collapses once the deception is exposed, leaving him humiliated but at least intact.
Three Arrancar led by Patros rebel against Aizen and steal what they believe is the Hogyoku, forcing Ulquiorra to confront them in Hueco Mundo. Patros claims to kill Ulquiorra and escapes to the Human World with his allies, believing they can use the stolen object to overthrow Aizen. Patros and the rebel Arrancar attack Urahara's shop to learn how to use the stolen Hogyoku, bringing Renji and the others into a fight across Karakura. The supposed prize turns out to be part of Aizen's trap, and Ulquiorra reappears alive to confirm that the rebellion was never beyond his master's control. Renji defeats Patros while the surviving pieces of the plot collapse around him.
Grimmjow returns to the Human World with a new group of Arrancar and immediately hunts for Ichigo, while Yammy targets Tatsuki and the others. Ulquiorra corners Orihime and tells her she must come to Hueco Mundo or everyone she cares about will be killed. He gives her a short window to say goodbye to one person without revealing what is happening. Orihime visits the wounded Ichigo while he sleeps and nearly kisses him, but instead leaves after confessing that she wishes she could fall in love with him five times over.
Orihime disappears with Ulquiorra, and Soul Society concludes that she went willingly because she was allowed to pass through their barriers without resistance. The Menos Forest begins collapsing as Ichigo's group reunites with Rukia and Ashido under attack from overwhelming numbers of Hollows. Ashido helps guide them toward the surface but chooses to remain behind rather than abandon the mission that has defined his life. The rescuers escape back toward Las Noches with one more ally left behind in Hueco Mundo.
Ichigo, Rukia, Renji, Uryu, and Chad finally stand together outside Las Noches and agree that whoever finds Orihime first will rescue her while the others survive their own battles. Rukia wants desperately to believe him, but the cruelty behind his words does not match the Kaien she remembers.
Rukia exposes Aaroniero by breaking the room open to sunlight, revealing the strange double-faced Espada beneath Kaien's appearance. Aaroniero explains that he absorbed Metastacia and gained Kaien's memories and abilities, weaponizing Rukia's grief against her. Badly wounded, Rukia stops treating him as Kaien and begins fighting the Espada responsible for wearing her friend's face.
Uryu and Pesche encounter Cirucci Sanderwicci, a Privaron Espada whose bladed wings turn the corridor into a dangerous close-range fight. Pesche's chaotic interference repeatedly annoys Uryu but also keeps Cirucci from controlling the battle exactly as she wants. Uryu begins reading the rhythm of her released form and prepares to use the Quincy weapon he has been saving.

Ichigo learns she is the heir to a powerful Soul Society family and that the people around her are hiding more than they first admit. After Hollows attack, Lurichiyo's guards see what Ichigo can do and begin relying on him to help keep her alive.
Ichigo keeps pressing Kenryu and Enryu for the truth about Lurichiyo until an assassin attacks her under the moonlight with a strange weapon that can stun him by reflecting light. Ichigo turns the trick back on the attacker and wins, but the assassin kills himself rather than be captured. Kenryu finally admits that Gyokaku Kumoi, a powerful figure inside the Kasumioji clan, has been trying to eliminate Lurichiyo and seize control of the family.
Lurichiyo rebels against being treated like a protected child and runs off after learning Ichigo was hired as her bodyguard. She meets Orihime and briefly gets the ordinary freedom she wants before another assassin finds her. Kira outlasts him, and when Kibune tries to draw more strength from the Bakoto, it consumes him instead.
With Kibune exposed, Renji carries proof of the Bakoto conspiracy to Yamamoto while Ichigo, Rukia, Amagai, and Shu head for the Kasumioji estate. Hitsugaya blocks their path under existing orders, forcing Amagai into a serious battle against Hyorinmaru while Rukia clashes with Rangiku. Nnoitra continues overwhelming Ichigo while Tesla keeps Orihime from healing him, forcing Nel to watch helplessly as the fight turns cruel. In Szayelaporro's laboratory, Renji and Uryu are forced to battle perfect copies of themselves until Szayelaporro reveals an even nastier trick. Nnoitra finally calls Nel by her full name, Nelliel Tu Odelschwanck, and identifies her as a former Espada.
Nnoitra uses Nel as leverage against Ichigo until the pressure triggers her return to her adult form. Nelliel carries Ichigo out of danger, reveals she was once the Third Espada, and immediately proves she can still fight at that level by overpowering Nnoitra. Her Cero Doble turns his own attack back on him, but Nnoitra warns that the Espada have grown stronger since she disappeared.
Renji and Uryu finally destroy the clones Szayelaporro created, only for him to abandon that game and produce voodoo dolls linked directly to their bodies. He begins crushing their organs from a distance, turning the fight into one they cannot block with weapons. At the same time, Nelliel and Nnoitra continue their old rivalry, with Nnoitra's resentment over her strength becoming impossible to hide.
Nnoitra remembers the years when Nelliel repeatedly defeated him as the Third Espada and refused to kill him, a mercy he hated more than losing. With Szayelaporro's help, he attacked Pesche and Dondochakka, ambushed Nelliel, and threw her broken body outside Las Noches, where she reverted to a child and lost her memory. Back in the present, Nelliel stops treating Nnoitra like a problem she can talk down and prepares to release her Zanpakuto.
Nelliel releases Gamuza and drives Nnoitra back with Lanzador Verde, while Pesche and Dondochakka finally show that they were once much more than comic relief. The two combine their Ceros against Szayelaporro, but he has already analyzed them and neutralizes the attack. Just as Nelliel is about to finish Nnoitra, she suddenly reverts to a child, and Tesla begins beating the helpless Ichigo until Kenpachi arrives.
Kenpachi kills Tesla in a single strike and takes Nnoitra for himself, revealing that Urahara stabilized the Garganta so Soul Society could finally send captains into Hueco Mundo. Unohana reaches Chad, Mayuri confronts Szayelaporro, and Byakuya arrives just in time to stop Zommari from killing Rukia. What had become a collapsing rescue mission suddenly gains four captain-level reinforcements.
Zommari releases Brujeria and uses its eyes to seize control of whatever they look at, forcing Byakuya to cut his own tendons when his limbs are taken. When Zommari turns the ability on Rukia and threatens to make her kill herself, Byakuya's restraint disappears. He immobilizes Rukia with Kido and releases Senbonzakura Kageyoshi, making the fight very personal very quickly.
Byakuya finishes Zommari after proving his control ability can be blocked, then turns his attention back to Rukia's condition. Szayelaporro appears to destroy Mayuri's organs through his voodoo doll, only for Mayuri to reveal that he replaced them with prepared substitutes after spying on the Espada through bacteria planted in Uryu. Mayuri answers the failed experiment with Bankai and lets Konjiki Ashisogi Jizo swallow Szayelaporro whole.
Szayelaporro escapes death by using Gabriel to resurrect himself through Nemu, but that choice exposes him to one of Mayuri's hidden drugs. His senses accelerate so violently that a single second feels like centuries while his body cannot keep up. Mayuri takes his time driving a blade through Szayelaporro's hand and heart, giving the Espada exactly the kind of cruel experiment he spent the battle inflicting on everyone else.
Kenpachi enjoys testing Nnoitra's claim that he has the hardest Hierro among the Espada and gradually learns how much force it takes to cut him. A thrust through Nnoitra's face hits empty space because his Hollow hole sits where his left eye should be, allowing Nnoitra to counterattack. Neither man is interested in stopping, and the fight settles into the kind of bloody contest Kenpachi lives for.
Kenpachi finally starts cutting Nnoitra cleanly, and the accidental loss of his eyepatch releases even more of the captain's spiritual pressure. Nnoitra responds by releasing Santa Teresa, gaining four arms and then regenerating the limbs Kenpachi cuts away. The extra blades push Kenpachi close enough to death that even he realizes brute-force sword swings may no longer be enough.
Kenpachi decides he would rather not die yet and uses the one formal sword technique Yamamoto once forced him to learn: holding his blade with two hands. The resulting strike nearly ends Nnoitra, but Nnoitra refuses to accept pity and charges again rather than live after losing. Kenpachi cuts him down for good, while Nnoitra's final memories return to Nelliel and the death in battle he had been chasing for years.
Starrk arrives in Hueco Mundo and takes Orihime back to Aizen, who reveals that her kidnapping was partly bait to trap several captains away from Karakura. Aizen, Gin, Tosen, and the top three Espada enter the Human World, only to find Yamamoto and the remaining Gotei 13 waiting inside a replica of Karakura Town while the real city has been moved to Soul Society. Ichigo realizes Ulquiorra has been left behind with Orihime and races back toward Las Noches.
Lurichiyo returns to Karakura after arguing with Kenryu over her responsibilities as head of the Kasumioji clan and her wish to hold a kemari tournament. Ichigo refuses to take sides, but Kenryu's dramatic threat of seppuku turns the quarrel into everybody's problem. Their attempt to trick Lurichiyo into forgiving him fails, so she settles the dispute the only way she now considers fair: a kemari match.
Lurichiyo and Kenryu recruit teams for their kemari match, dragging Ichigo, Ikkaku, and half of Karakura into a game nobody treats normally. A Hollow drawn by the players' spiritual pressure crashes the field and briefly turns the tournament back into Soul Reaper work. Shu arrives afterward with proof that Lurichiyo's festival idea has support in Soul Society, letting her return home without losing the argument that brought her there.
Arrancar: Decisive Battle of Karakura Arc

While Ichigo, Chad, and Uryu are away in Hueco Mundo, Urahara decides Karakura still needs local protection and forces Kon into the role of costumed hero Karakuraizer. Don Kanonji, Tatsuki, Chizuru, Keigo, Ururu, and Zennosuke are recruited into the ridiculous team whether they are qualified or not. Their first night actually goes well until a strange Arrancar-like woman appears and reveals a larger Hollow problem behind the comedy.
The Karakuraizer team enters a Hollow fortress linked to the Human World while Kanonji and Ururu hold off the creatures outside. Keigo, Tatsuki, Chizuru, and Zennosuke somehow keep the interior enemies busy while Kon reaches the center and destroys the fortress with his own improvised attack. Urahara quietly puts Karakura back to sleep afterward, leaving the accidental heroes with very little idea what they accomplished.
Aizen, Gin, Tosen, and the top Espada arrive in Fake Karakura Town and face the captains left behind by Soul Society. Yamamoto traps the three traitors inside a wall of fire while Baraggan takes command of the Arrancar forces. In Hueco Mundo, Ulquiorra confronts Orihime and Ichigo breaks through the Exequias to reach the room where she is being held.
Ichigo reaches Ulquiorra and begins the fight he was denied earlier, while the battle in Fake Karakura shifts toward the pillars keeping the real town safely displaced. Baraggan sends four Fraccion to destroy them, and Ikkaku, Yumichika, Kira, and Hisagi each take responsibility for one pillar. Four separate fights begin with Karakura itself hanging on whether any one of them fails.
Yumichika faces Charlotte Chuhlhourne in a duel that immediately becomes an argument over which fighter is more beautiful. Charlotte's released form traps them inside a black thorn prison that hides their spiritual pressure from everyone outside. With nobody able to witness it, Yumichika finally uses the true Kido-based power of Ruri'iro Kujaku and drains Charlotte dry.
Kira battles Avirama Redder, whose released form turns his steel feathers into heavy projectile weapons. Rather than overpower him, Kira uses Wabisuke to double the weight of Avirama's wings until he can no longer fly. Kira then explains why the Third Division's emblem is despair and executes Avirama without pretending war is something noble.
Hisagi is pushed hard by Findorr Calius, who keeps breaking pieces from his mask to raise his power while claiming to match captain and lieutenant levels at will. Cornered by Findorr's released Pinza Aguda, Hisagi finally reveals Kazeshini, a weapon whose shape he hates because it looks made only for taking lives. His fear of death is exactly what Findorr lacks, and Hisagi kills him after the Arrancar panics the moment the fight truly turns against him.
Ikkaku loses to Choe Neng Poww without using Bankai, and the destruction of his pillar begins pulling the real Karakura Town back into place. Komamura steps in and defeats Poww's enormous released form with Bankai before the failure becomes permanent. Iba then tears into Ikkaku for choosing secrecy and pride over the mission, making clear that dying in a satisfying fight means nothing if everyone else pays for it.
With Baraggan's first group of Fraccion defeated, the battle opens into direct clashes with the Espada. Hitsugaya takes Halibel, Kyoraku squares off with Starrk, Rangiku faces Halibel's three Fraccion, and Soi Fon and Omaeda are matched against Ggio and Nirgge. The scattered pillar defense has become the full war Aizen came to Karakura to provoke.
Soi Fon studies Ggio's speed while Omaeda looks hopelessly outmatched by the heavier Nirgge. Omaeda eventually reveals that much of his clumsiness was an act and uses his speed to turn the fight around. Ggio releases Tigre Estoque and forces Soi Fon to keep playing defense, convinced he has pushed the captain to her limit.
Ggio presses his advantage until Soi Fon admits she deliberately let the fight continue so she could study an Arrancar's released form before facing Baraggan. When Ggio transforms again for more power, she stops observing and kills him with Suzumebachi almost immediately. Omaeda finishes Nirgge, and the two move on knowing the Espada waiting behind the Fraccion will be far worse.
Rangiku struggles against Apacci, Mila Rose, and Sung-Sun together until Momo Hinamori arrives and traps all three with a carefully layered Kido attack. The Fraccion survive by releasing their Zanpakuto and then sacrifice their left arms to create a creature from their combined power. Ayon emerges with spiritual pressure far beyond what the lieutenants expected from a summoned beast.
Ayon tears through Rangiku and Momo, then overwhelms Hisagi and Iba when they try to stop it. Kira can do little except keep the wounded alive while the creature keeps advancing through every lieutenant sent against it. Yamamoto finally steps in himself, annoyed that his officers have forced him to deal with something they should have contained.
Yamamoto destroys Ayon and burns Halibel's three Fraccion with almost insulting ease, clearing the battlefield for the Espada themselves. Halibel reveals she is number three and turns her fight with Hitsugaya serious, while Starrk identifies himself as the Primera Espada opposite Kyoraku. In Hueco Mundo, Ichigo continues battling Ulquiorra as both sides finally reach the opponents who matter most.
The story jumps back to the beginning of the school year, showing how Ichigo and Chad first became classmates with Keigo and Mizuiro and how Orihime met Chizuru. In Soul Society, Renji is promoted to lieutenant of the Sixth Division while Rukia is assigned to protect Karakura Town. The episode quietly lines those lives up with the day Rukia first entered Ichigo's room, filling in the ordinary connections around the series' opening.
The Women's Soul Reaper Association moves its latest recreation plan to the Human World after Byakuya destroys the unauthorized pool they built on his property. The beach trip turns into a swimsuit contest, sand sculpture competition, and general disaster before watermelon-shaped Hollows attack. Yoruichi and Soi Fon handle the creatures, revealing that Unohana had folded the whole incident into an elaborate watermelon-splitting game.
Ikkaku and Yumichika are sent to Karakura to hunt a Hollow and end up staying with Keigo's family after Ichigo refuses to house them. Keigo's sister Mizuho becomes obsessed with Ikkaku, so Yumichika glues a wig to his head to make him less attractive and instead makes their living situation unbearable. When the Hollow takes Mizuho, Ikkaku tears himself free of his Gigai, saves her, and leaves town with her admiration restored.

Across Seireitei, Soul Reapers suddenly find their Zanpakuto refusing to answer them. Muramasa gathers the captains and lieutenants at Sokyoku Hill and reveals that he has given their sword spirits physical form and convinced them to reject their masters. When Tenken strikes down Komamura and the other manifested spirits appear beside Muramasa, the Gotei 13 realizes the rebellion is already inside its walls.
Ichigo finds Rukia injured in Karakura after being attacked by the manifested Sode no Shirayuki and learns that Soul Society has been torn apart by its own Zanpakuto. Byakuya is missing after an apparent fight with Senbonzakura, and Rukia refuses to sit safely in the Human World while his fate is unknown. She returns to Seireitei alone, with Ichigo and Yoruichi following after her.
Rukia finds Sode no Shirayuki at the Kuchiki estate and tries to convince her that their bond means more than Muramasa's promise of freedom. The spirit refuses and defeats both Rukia and Ichigo, forcing Rukia into a desperate Kid? attack that traps the two of them together. Sode no Shirayuki finally hesitates when Rukia is badly wounded, but Muramasa arrives before the reconciliation can happen.
Muramasa confronts Ichigo and pulls Zangetsu directly out of his soul, turning Ichigo's own Zanpakuto against him. Zangetsu overwhelms Ichigo until his inner Hollow takes control and attacks both Zangetsu and Muramasa without restraint. Ichigo regains himself before the Hollow can go further, but Muramasa has now seen exactly how unusual Ichigo's inner world really is.
Renji searches for Byakuya and instead meets Zabimaru in two separate bodies: Saru, a woman, and Hebi, a snake-tailed boy. Both mock Renji for being too weak to deserve them and attack him with the power he normally commands himself. At the same time, Kazeshini begins hunting Hisagi, while Muramasa enters Ichigo's inner world to investigate the Hollow inside him.
Hisagi faces Kazeshini and is disgusted to discover that his sword spirit delights in killing even more openly than he feared. Renji continues fighting the two halves of Zabimaru, struggling with everything they say about his weakness and dependence on Bankai. Inside Ichigo, Muramasa tries to control the inner Hollow, only for Ichigo to defend that Hollow as part of himself and force Muramasa back out.
Kira rescues Hisagi from Kazeshini while Renji finally outsmarts Zabimaru, breaking their copied Bankai and defeating the two spirits without simply overpowering them. Ichigo fights Zangetsu in Bankai and uses his Hollow power together with Getsuga Tensho to win back control of his sword. Zangetsu then explains Muramasa's real trick: he awakens the buried instincts of Zanpakuto and uses those desires to turn them against their masters.
Ichigo reports what he learned about Muramasa while the Gotei 13 begins capturing manifested Zanpakuto instead of blindly destroying them. Omaeda encounters Gegetsuburi and Ikkaku finds Hozukimaru, leading to fights between masters and their own weapons. Hozukimaru escapes after using Bankai, but Ichigo's pursuit is interrupted by Senbonzakura and a glimpse of the still-missing Byakuya.
Rangiku and Momo face Haineko and Tobiume, whose constant bickering proves that becoming independent has not made either spirit easier to live with. The two Soul Reapers exploit that rivalry with Kid? and begin turning the fight around. Elsewhere, Ichigo encounters Hyorinmaru, who has forgotten both his name and his master, just as Hitsugaya arrives to claim him.
Hitsugaya fights Hyorinmaru while trying to make the amnesiac spirit remember the bond they formed long before he became a captain. Their battle freezes the surrounding area as neither can use the other's power properly while separated. By calling Hyorinmaru's name and awakening his Shikai again, Hitsugaya finally reaches him and restores their connection.
Mayuri determines that a manifested Zanpakuto can return to its sword only after being defeated by its own master, giving Soul Society a way to end the rebellion without destroying its weapons. Ichigo finds Muramasa but is stopped by Senbonzakura before he can attack. Then Byakuya appears beside them and declares that he has joined Muramasa, stunning the Gotei 13 and Rukia alike.
Byakuya proves his loyalty to Muramasa by apparently destroying Sode no Shirayuki, leaving Rukia unable to call her Zanpakuto. Renji confronts his captain and is joined by Zabimaru, but Byakuya and Senbonzakura overwhelm them together. Before the fight can end, more manifested Zanpakuto arrive and the Second Division springs a trap, turning the confrontation into a full battle.
Masters and Zanpakuto clash across Seireitei as Ikkaku faces Hozukimaru, Yumichika fights Ruri'iro Kujaku, Kira takes on Kazeshini, and Soi Fon is surrounded by Tenken and Gonryomaru. Ichigo goes after Byakuya but Senbonzakura intercepts him and forces a Bankai duel. The rebellion finally becomes exactly what Muramasa promised: Soul Reaper against sword on every front.
Ichigo continues battling Senbonzakura while the other Soul Reapers struggle to reclaim their own weapons. Kira captures Kazeshini only to be attacked by Wabisuke, and Yumichika breaks free of Ruri'iro Kujaku's vines to win back his blade. Just as Ichigo tries to reach Kira, Kenpachi finally returns to Seireitei and makes the rebellion everybody else's problem.
Kenpachi destroys Wabisuke before the spirit can finish Kira and then turns eagerly toward Senbonzakura. His spiritual pressure overwhelms the manifested blade until Byakuya steps in and takes Kenpachi himself, leaving Senbonzakura to resume fighting Ichigo. Elsewhere, Yumichika defeats Ruri'iro Kujaku and restores his Zanpakuto, proving Muramasa's control can be broken one sword at a time.
Ashisogi Jizo releases Bankai and fills the battlefield with poison, giving Byakuya and Senbonzakura the opening they need to escape. Mayuri later destroys his own rampaging Zanpakuto and Soi Fon finally defeats Suzumebachi, allowing more swords to return to their masters. Yoruichi then reveals the most important discovery yet: Yamamoto is alive, but Muramasa's spirits have him imprisoned.
Ukitake, Kyoraku, Kenpachi, Yoruichi, and Ichigo enter Muramasa's cave to rescue Yamamoto and immediately meet some of the strongest manifested Zanpakuto. Katen Kyokotsu and Sogyo no Kotowari stop their own masters, while Tenken and Gonryomaru find Kenpachi and Yachiru. Ichigo defeats Kazeshini and reaches the barrier around Yamamoto, but Muramasa is waiting for him there.
Muramasa deliberately provokes Ichigo into using his Hollow-enhanced Getsuga Tensho, then redirects the attack into the barrier imprisoning Yamamoto. Yamamoto had created that barrier himself to keep Muramasa from reaching Ryujin Jakka, meaning Ichigo has unknowingly broken the one defense Muramasa could not cross. Muramasa takes control of Ryujin Jakka and abandons the other sword spirits now that they have served their purpose.
Ryujin Jakka traps Ichigo, Yamamoto, Ukitake, Kyoraku, and the others behind an enormous wall of fire while Muramasa heads for Karakura Town. Yamamoto reveals that Muramasa's true goal is freeing his sealed master, Koga Kuchiki. Hitsugaya and Hyorinmaru combine their power to break Ichigo out of the flames so he can follow Muramasa to the Human World.
Muramasa collapses in Karakura and briefly accepts Orihime's help before Uryu, Chad, and Rukia confront him. Senbonzakura arrives to defend Muramasa and battles Uryu while Muramasa admits that his entire rebellion has been driven by loneliness and the need to free his master. Ichigo reaches Karakura just as Muramasa succeeds in breaking Koga's seal.
Centuries earlier, Koga Kuchiki was a gifted Soul Reaper married into the Kuchiki clan and dangerously confident in Muramasa's ability to control other Zanpakuto. After helping suppress a rebellion, jealous officials framed him for murdering allies and had him imprisoned. Muramasa freed him, but in the present the reunion Muramasa sacrificed everything to achieve ends with Koga stabbing him without hesitation.
Koga's past continues as he murders the men who framed him and becomes increasingly violent even after Ginrei tries to pull him back. His growing distrust eventually cuts him off from Muramasa, and Yamamoto and Ginrei seal him away when his Zanpakuto can no longer hear his calls. In the present, Koga dismisses Muramasa as a mere tool, prompting Byakuya to step forward and challenge the disgraced Kuchiki himself.
Senbonzakura reveals that Byakuya never truly joined Muramasa: he used the rebellion to discover Koga's prison and fulfill his duty to the Kuchiki family. Koga's ability distorts Byakuya's senses and nearly gives him the victory, but Senbonzakura helps his master overcome the illusion. Byakuya answers with Bankai and condemns Koga for the one failure Muramasa could never forgive, refusing to trust his own Zanpakuto.
With Koga gone, Muramasa's body begins collapsing because he has been consuming Hollows for years just to survive without a master. Those Hollows erupt from him and twist him into an Arrancar-like creature capable of firing Cero. Orihime tries to reach the grief underneath the transformation, but Muramasa loses control completely and engulfs Ichigo inside a growing mass of spiritual energy.
Mayuri frees the remaining Zanpakuto from Muramasa's influence and restores the spirits that were damaged during the rebellion. The reunited Soul Reapers and their blades fight the Menos pouring into Karakura while Byakuya gathers their spiritual power to seal the opening in the sky. Ichigo remains trapped inside Muramasa's expanding shell, leaving the final fight to happen where nobody else can reach him.
Inside the collapsing world created by Muramasa, Ichigo confronts him over the contradiction at the heart of the rebellion: Muramasa preached freedom while devoting everything to a master who rejected him. Ichigo defeats him and the two return to the Human World, where Muramasa finally understands what his bond with Koga became. Muramasa dies at peace, and the Zanpakuto rebellion ends with the swords returned to their masters.
With Muramasa defeated, several Zanpakuto spirits remain materialized long enough to attend a cherry-blossom gathering at the Kuchiki estate. The peace is interrupted by masterless Zanpakuto whose Soul Reaper owners died during the fighting, leaving the blades unstable and increasingly violent. Rukia and Sode no Shirayuki capture one together, and Mayuri names this new problem the Sword Beasts.
Ichigo encounters a Sword Beast in Karakura and learns that losing a master does not simply make a Zanpakuto spirit harmless. The rogue blade fuses with a Hollow and becomes capable of using Hollow power, overwhelming Haineko and forcing Hitsugaya and Ichigo to intervene. Soul Society realizes the Sword Beasts may grow more dangerous the longer they remain free.
Renji and Zabimaru follow a boomerang-shaped Sword Beast into Karakura, but Hebi wanders off after becoming fascinated by the idea of living independently. Karin can see him and takes the strange childlike spirit home, giving Hebi a taste of the freedom he thought he wanted. When the Sword Beast kidnaps Karin, Hebi rejoins Saru and Renji to save her and willingly returns to being part of Zabimaru.
Ikkaku, Hanataro, Nanao, and Hozukimaru investigate thefts that lead them into Seireitei's underground passages, where a tentacled Sword Beast attacks them. A strange white figure heals the wounded Ikkaku and destroys the creature with stored spiritual power. The mysterious helper turns out to be Hisagomaru, Hanataro's Zanpakuto, whose lack of resentment toward his master kept him from ever joining Muramasa's rebellion.
Kazeshini finds an infant beside a dying man during a Sword Beast hunt and reluctantly becomes its protector. His usual obsession with killing starts giving way to concern for the child, even causing him to abandon chances to attack Hisagi. After ensuring the baby is safe, Kazeshini finally faces Hisagi again and loses, returning to sword form with a better understanding of the man he once despised.
Orihime befriends transfer student Kyoko Haida, a girl whose ability to predict events has left her isolated from people who think she is frightening. A mouthless Sword Beast merges with Kyoko and tries to use her body to attack the friend who rejected her. Orihime separates the spirit from Kyoko with her powers, allowing Ichigo to destroy it and giving Kyoko at least one friend who will not fear what she can do.
Haineko secretly befriends a Sword Beast named Narunosuke and brings him food and medicine despite warnings that masterless blades eventually lose control. Narunosuke wants to remain himself, but his mind and body deteriorate until he attacks indiscriminately. When there is no longer any way to save him, Haineko is forced to destroy the friend she had been trying to protect.
Senbonzakura and Zabimaru deliver a captured Sword Beast to the Twelfth Division and accidentally trap themselves inside Mayuri's increasingly ridiculous security system. Senbonzakura's refusal to leave buttons alone turns a simple containment problem into a full facility lockdown, complete with explosions and an angry Ashisogi Jizo. By the time they escape, Renji is less impressed by their power than horrified by the damage report.
Kyoraku sends Nanao to hunt a Sword Beast with the younger half of Katen Kyokotsu, whose silent and playful behavior makes cooperation difficult. Nanao gradually discovers that the spirit responds to small gestures more than lectures, especially her fascination with cherry blossoms. When the Sword Beast returns and wounds Nanao, Kyoraku finishes it, and the strange partnership ends with Katen Kyokotsu quietly returning Nanao's kindness.
The remaining manifested Zanpakuto discover that a Sword Beast named Kirikaze is absorbing the spiritual energy of other masterless blades and becoming stronger with every attack. Their individual techniques fail against his mist-like body, forcing the spirits to accept that they still fight best beside their Soul Reaper masters. They give their remaining power to Renji, whose Bankai destroys Kirikaze and finally ends the Sword Beast outbreak.

With the Zanpakuto rebellion over, the story returns to Hueco Mundo by recapping the battles that left Ichigo facing Ulquiorra at the top of Las Noches. Orihime watches from nearby while Chad, Rukia, Renji, and Uryu remain scattered through the fortress. The recap brings the Arrancar war back into focus before the fight resumes in earnest.
Ichigo and Ulquiorra resume their duel while Uryu moves to keep Yammy away from Orihime. Uryu uses mines and the layout of Las Noches to drop the enormous Arrancar through several floors rather than trying to overpower him directly. Above them, Ulquiorra finally draws his sword and prepares to show Ichigo the difference between fighting an Espada and truly facing one.
Loly and Menoly attack Orihime out of jealousy over Aizen's interest in her, only for Yammy to interrupt and turn on them as well. Uryu arrives in time to pull Orihime out of danger and sends Yammy falling through the fortress with another trap. Orihime rushes back toward Ichigo just as Ulquiorra takes their battle above the dome of Las Noches.
Uryu takes responsibility for Yammy so Ichigo can concentrate entirely on Ulquiorra, and Rukia continues fighting Rudbornn's endlessly regenerating soldiers below. Above Las Noches, Ulquiorra releases Murcielago and overwhelms Ichigo with speed and power beyond anything his Hollow mask can close. Ichigo refuses to retreat even after realizing just how hopeless the difference between them is.
Ulquiorra batters Ichigo across the roof of Las Noches and explains that even his first release is more than Ichigo can handle. Ichigo keeps standing because Orihime is watching and because surrender would mean abandoning everyone who came this far with him. Ulquiorra responds by revealing Segunda Etapa, a second release even Aizen has never seen from the other Espada.
Ulquiorra's second release crushes Ichigo completely and ends the fight by firing a Cero through his chest. Orihime reaches Ichigo but cannot heal a wound that has already stopped his heart, while Uryu tries to hold Ulquiorra back and loses an arm for it. Desperate and unable to save either of them, Orihime cries out Ichigo's name, and something inside him answers.
Ichigo rises in a monstrous Hollow form that overwhelms Ulquiorra with speed, regeneration, and a Cero powerful enough to tear apart the battlefield. He attacks Uryu when Uryu tries to stop him from mutilating the defeated Espada, showing that Ichigo himself is no longer in control. Ulquiorra destroys the Hollow horn and Ichigo returns to normal, but Ulquiorra's body is already disintegrating as he reaches toward Orihime and finally begins to understand what she means by a heart.
In Fake Karakura Town, Halibel releases Tiburon and floods Hitsugaya's battlefield with enough water to overwhelm his ice defenses. Hitsugaya answers by turning her own water into more material for Hyorinmaru and reveals that the longer their fight continues, the more the environment favors him. Starrk and Baraggan remain locked against Kyoraku and Soi Fon as the top Espada finally begin showing their full power.
Hitsugaya unleashes Hyoten Hyakkaso, filling the sky with snow that turns each flake touching Halibel into another frozen flower. The technique traps her inside a massive pillar of ice, but Hitsugaya knows an Espada of her rank may not be finished. Elsewhere, Omaeda struggles to distract Baraggan long enough for Soi Fon to prepare the Bankai she hates using.
Baraggan releases Arrogante and reveals Respira, an aura that ages everything it touches until it rots away. Soi Fon loses part of her arm trying to escape it and orders Omaeda to cut the limb off before the decay reaches the rest of her body. Hachigen Ushoda arrives with the Visoreds and immediately recognizes that defeating Baraggan will require something more careful than attacking him head-on.
Hachigen builds barriers around Baraggan while Soi Fon reluctantly reveals Jakuh? Raik?ben, the enormous missile launcher she considers completely unsuited to an assassin. Her Bankai detonates inside Hachigen's trap and appears to engulf Baraggan, but the King of Hueco Mundo survives behind his aging power. Hachigen is left to solve the problem of how to kill an enemy whose own body destroys anything that reaches him.
Starrk releases Los Lobos and turns his spiritual pressure into an arsenal of pistols and Ceros, finally forcing Kyoraku to treat their duel seriously. Kyoraku tries to bring Ukitake into the fight, but Wonderweiss suddenly appears and strikes Ukitake down before Starrk can continue. The battlefield shifts again as the Visoreds arrive to confront Aizen and the Espada they once watched him create.
Wonderweiss shatters Hitsugaya's ice and frees Halibel while Baraggan emerges from Soi Fon's Bankai attack, putting the top Espada back into the battle at once. The Visoreds enter Fake Karakura and choose their opponents, with Hiyori furious at seeing Aizen again after a century. Yamamoto continues containing Aizen, Gin, and Tosen while the captains and Visoreds combine forces against the remaining Arrancar.
Shinji finally confronts Aizen face to face after a century of carrying the consequences of his betrayal. The other Visoreds spread across the battlefield to support the Gotei 13, while Hachigen joins Soi Fon against Baraggan. Their arrival is not a reconciliation with Soul Society so much as a chance to settle a debt that began the night Aizen turned them into Hollows.
Hachigen realizes Baraggan's Respira can destroy the king himself if it can be placed inside his body. After sacrificing an arm to the decay, he teleports the severed limb into Baraggan's stomach and lets the Espada's own power consume him from within. Dying, Baraggan hurls his weapon at Aizen in fury, but the man who crowned him an Espada does not even bother to move.
Baraggan's final moments reveal the king he once was in Hueco Mundo before Aizen entered his palace and effortlessly stripped away his authority. His hatred was never loyalty, and becoming the Second Espada only turned his kingdom into another piece of Aizen's army. As Baraggan disappears, the battle narrows toward Starrk and Halibel.
Starrk reveals that the wolves accompanying him are pieces of his own soul, explosive spirit bodies that swarm Love and Rose no matter how many they destroy. The two Visored captains release their Zanpakuto and push him hard, but Starrk's loneliness and Lilynette's presence make his power fundamentally different from the other Espada. Kyoraku returns to the fight when Starrk finally begins overwhelming them.
Kyoraku reveals Katen Kyokotsu's children's-game abilities, forcing both fighters to obey shifting rules about shadows, colors, and positioning. Starrk adapts quickly but begins remembering the crushing loneliness that led him to split his soul and eventually follow Aizen. Kyoraku lands the final strike, and Starrk dies thinking less about the battle than the companions he finally found among the Espada.
Halibel remembers her life in Hueco Mundo before joining Aizen, protecting weaker female Hollows and refusing to survive by devouring others without purpose. In the present, she continues fighting Hitsugaya until Aizen suddenly decides the Espada have failed him. He cuts Halibel down himself, making clear that the loyalty he demanded from them was never something he intended to return.
Hiyori charges Aizen in rage after watching him discard Halibel and is nearly cut in half by Gin before anyone can stop her. Shinji catches her and Orihime is called from Hueco Mundo in the hope that she can save Hiyori before the wound becomes fatal. Aizen then steps onto the battlefield himself, and the captains and Visoreds turn from the Espada toward the man responsible for everything.
Ichigo leaves Hueco Mundo with Unohana, learning on the way that he may be the only fighter who has never seen Aizen's Shikai and therefore the only one not already trapped by Kyoka Suigetsu. Unohana tells him how enormous his remaining spiritual power is even after the Ulquiorra fight. Back in Fake Karakura, everyone prepares to create an opening for Ichigo to strike Aizen without ever seeing his release.
In a parody version of the story, Ichigo becomes a desert traveler caught in a ridiculous adventure involving lamps, magical spirits, familiar faces in new roles, and a princess in trouble. Characters from across Bleach are recast inside the fantasy without any concern for continuity. It is a complete comedy detour before the Aizen battle resumes.
Unohana continues explaining Aizen's Kyoka Suigetsu to Ichigo as they race toward Karakura, making the importance of Ichigo never having seen the release painfully clear. In Fake Karakura, Shinji finally uses Sakanade and reverses Aizen's senses, briefly putting the man who manipulates everyone else's perception on the receiving end. Aizen adapts almost immediately, reminding Shinji why a clever ability alone will not be enough.
Back in Hueco Mundo, Byakuya and Kenpachi argue over who gets to finish Yammy and nearly start fighting each other while the Zero Espada attacks both of them. Rukia, Renji, and Chad try to survive the shockwaves while Mayuri watches the destruction with more interest than concern. Yammy discovers that being the strongest numbered Espada does not guarantee either captain will take him seriously.
Komamura confronts Tosen over the justice he once claimed to serve and the hatred that led him to follow Aizen instead. Hisagi joins his former captain in battle, still hoping there is something of the man he respected left to reach. Tosen rejects both of them and uses Hollowfication, revealing how completely he has embraced the power Aizen offered.
Tosen releases Resurreccion and gains sight for the first time, but his excitement at seeing Komamura leaves him open to Hisagi, who strikes from the blind spot Tosen never had before gaining vision. Mortally wounded, Tosen begins reaching back toward Komamura and Hisagi before Aizen destroys him. Shinji attacks Aizen with Sakanade as the rest of the battlefield turns its fury toward their former ally.
The captains and Visoreds attack Aizen together, coordinating their abilities to create openings despite Kyoka Suigetsu. Hitsugaya, Kyoraku, Soi Fon, and Shinji appear to corner him while Ichigo watches for the moment he can safely enter the fight. Then Ichigo screams for everyone to stop, revealing that they have been attacking Momo Hinamori under Aizen's illusion.
Realizing Aizen used him to stab Momo sends Hitsugaya into a rage, and he charges without the discipline the others need from him. Aizen cuts through Hitsugaya, Kyoraku, Soi Fon, and Shinji in rapid succession, leaving the battlefield devastated. Yamamoto finally steps in directly and catches Aizen's sword with his bare hand, trusting the blade in his body as proof that the man in front of him is real.
Yamamoto surrounds Aizen with Ennetsu Jigoku and prepares to sacrifice himself and the entire battlefield if that is what it takes to kill him. Aizen reveals Wonderweiss was created specifically to seal Ryujin Jakka's flames, forcing Yamamoto to fight the Arrancar with his bare hands instead. Yamamoto destroys Wonderweiss, only to realize the sealed flames inside his body are about to explode around them.
Yamamoto contains Wonderweiss's explosion with his own body, surviving but leaving himself open to Aizen. Ichigo attacks and wounds Aizen, only for the Hogyoku to begin healing and transforming its master beyond normal Soul Reaper limits. Aizen tells Ichigo that the battles and relationships that shaped his growth were never accidents, claiming he has been guiding Ichigo's development from the beginning.
Aizen explains that he has watched Ichigo since before their first meeting, arranging opponents that would force his power to evolve. Before he can explain how he knew about Ichigo from birth, Isshin arrives and knocks Aizen away. Father and son finally stand together as Soul Reapers, and Isshin makes it clear that whatever secrets remain, this is not the moment Ichigo needs to hear them.
Isshin takes Aizen while Ichigo faces Gin, whose Bankai Kamishini no Yari extends and retracts at terrifying speed. Gin tests Ichigo's resolve as much as his swordsmanship, noticing that fear has crept into Ichigo's attacks. The fight stalls when Aizen's transformation advances again and he begins leaving the battlefield behind.
Soul Society holds a film festival, and the divisions produce their own increasingly ridiculous movies with wildly different ideas of what counts as entertainment. Ichigo finally stops trying to win through force and begins to understand that Zangetsu is resisting because teaching the technique means losing Ichigo.
The story steps away from Aizen for a New Year comedy built around the Soul Reapers visiting the Human World and getting pulled into seasonal games and traditions. Familiar rivalries turn simple celebrations into competitions, arguments, and accidents. Nothing here advances the Arrancar war; it is a holiday special in the middle of the season.
The alternate Bleach side-story setting returns with Ichigo and the cast recast in another exaggerated fantasy adventure. Monsters, costumes, and familiar characters in unfamiliar roles replace the main continuity for the episode. It is a deliberately silly diversion before the final Aizen material resumes.
Hisagi becomes obsessed with producing a feature for the Seireitei Communication about a hot-springs inn and drags Rangiku into the assignment. His fantasies about a relaxing trip collide with the realities of reporting, suspicious behavior around the inn, and Rangiku's complete refusal to follow his imagined script. The result is another standalone comedy centered on Hisagi's ability to make ordinary work much harder than necessary.
Ichigo finally understands that Tensa Zangetsu and his Hollow are not trying to defeat him; they are trying to protect him from the cost of the Final Getsuga Tensho. His obsession with earning respect pushes him into a fight beyond what he can safely handle. Ikkaku and the others are forced to confront what their division's love of battle looks like to someone desperate to belong there.
Kon becomes fascinated with a beautiful office worker and starts following her, convinced he has stumbled onto the romance of his life. What he actually finds is a woman connected to a spiritual problem he is poorly equipped to understand on his own. His attempt to play hero turns into a more sincere effort to help once he realizes there is a real person behind the fantasy.
Yachiru befriends a timid Soul Reaper who dreams of becoming a heroic protector despite lacking confidence in his own strength. Her completely fearless approach to danger drags him into a situation where he has to decide whether the ideals he talks about mean anything when someone actually needs help. With Yachiru beside him, he gets the chance to act like the hero he wanted to be.
Hitsugaya is sent to the Human World and becomes involved with an elderly woman whose memories are tied to a spirit she has waited years to see again. What begins as an unwanted interruption to his duties becomes a quiet reminder that Soul Reapers deal with ordinary human grief as often as battles. Hitsugaya helps bring the long wait to an end before returning to Soul Society.

Rukia frees Ichigo from confinement after Ukitake and Kyoraku question the case against him, but Renji and Ikkaku suddenly attack them with none of their usual restraint. Yoruichi rescues the pair and explains that the attackers are Reigai, artificial bodies carrying copied souls of the real Gotei 13 members. In Karakura, Kageroza Inaba sends more Reigai after Nozomi, and Uryu steps in when Kon is cornered.
Uryu fights Kageroza while Yoruichi clears a path for Ichigo and Rukia to escape Soul Society, but Kageroza's Zanpakuto lets him dominate the battlefield by manipulating the Dangai. Nozomi is captured, and Chad is injured buying Orihime time to heal Uryu. Unohana identifies Kageroza as the scientist behind the Reigai and learns that his Zanpakuto allows him to move through space and time inside the Dangai. In Karakura, the real Renji joins Chad against his duplicate while Nozomi tells Kon she intends to vanish through a natural Senkaimon so Kageroza can never use her. Before she can disappear, a group of Reigai surrounds her and Ichigo destroys them with a single Getsuga Tensho.
Hitsugaya, Byakuya, Kenpachi, Komamura, and Yachiru return through Urahara's Senkaimon to retake Seireitei, but Kageroza attacks them inside the Dangai and forces Komamura to stay behind. Kenpachi quickly finds his own Reigai and turns the encounter into exactly the kind of fight he enjoys. Elsewhere, Unohana reaches Kageroza's laboratory only to discover that even Isane has been replaced.
Byakuya is intercepted by Hitsugaya's Reigai, and their Bankai clash turns into a fight over whether a perfect copy can inherit the convictions of the person it imitates. Byakuya defeats the duplicate, but only narrowly avoids Hyoten Hyakkaso. In Karakura, Nozomi restores enough of Ichigo's fading spiritual power for him to insist on returning to Soul Society despite Urahara's warnings.
Hitsugaya encounters a Reigai Momo and hesitates even knowing she is fake, leaving him vulnerable when a second Momo appears and both turn on him. Yoruichi arrives before the trap can kill him and destroys the duplicates. At the same time, Kageroza fights Ichigo and uses the Dangai itself to isolate him, trapping the already weakened Substitute Soul Reaper where nobody can reach him.

Nozomi's determination to live awakens her Soul Reaper form and allows her to defeat the Hollow herself.
Nozomi decides she wants to fight Kageroza but cannot remember the name of her Zanpakuto, so Ichigo and the others put her through the kind of brutal training that once awakened Zangetsu. Meanwhile, Urahara traps several captain-class Reigai entering Karakura and the remaining Soul Reapers hold them off. Under Ichigo's full Getsuga Tensho, Nozomi finally calls Arazome Shigure and reveals a blade capable of absorbing spiritual attacks.
The Reigai captains tear through the Soul Reapers defending Karakura, with the copies of Kenpachi, Hitsugaya, Komamura, and Byakuya proving too strong for the lieutenants fighting them. Uryu realizes Arazome Shigure can absorb spiritual energy and urges everyone to feed their power into Nozomi instead of attacking separately. Nozomi releases the combined energy in one enormous counterattack, and Yamamoto arrives to finish the last surviving Reigai.
Yamamoto remains suspicious of Nozomi because she is a Modified Soul, but the returning Reigai of Ukitake, Kyoraku, and Unohana force everyone into another battle. Kageroza appears personally and avoids striking Nozomi once her absorption ability becomes a threat to him. Nozomi tries to protect Yamamoto from Kageroza's copied attacks, only to discover that Kageroza has learned how to absorb and redirect spiritual power just as she can.
Nozomi's Zanpakuto breaks while shielding Yamamoto, and Kageroza reveals that he and Nozomi were created from the divided spiritual particles of the same Soul Reaper. Ichigo pursues them even as his remaining Soul Reaper power collapses around him, defeating what turns out to be only a copy of Kageroza. The real Kageroza knocks Ichigo down, captures Nozomi, and leaves Kon screaming after them as Ichigo's black robes begin fading to white.
Ichigo has lost his Soul Reaper power again, but Urahara proposes a dangerous way to recover a fragment of it from the K?totsu that once swallowed him inside the Dangai. Ichigo deliberately enters the creature and manages to return with enough of his old spiritual energy to continue the rescue. He also remembers seeing another version of himself inside, leading Urahara to realize that a future Ichigo was the mysterious person who saved him earlier in the arc.
Rukia and the others draw the Reigai away while Ichigo, Urahara, and Kon infiltrate the Twelfth Division looking for Kageroza and Nozomi. Urahara tries to restore Ichigo with a specially prepared Soul Candy, but the process is interrupted and Ichigo is forced to swallow the unfinished version. His Soul Reaper and Hollow powers become dangerously unstable just as the Reigai captains surround them, until the original captains return to the fight.
Urahara traces the Modified Soul project back to Oko Yushima, a withdrawn Soul Reaper researcher who split his own spiritual particles into two separate artificial souls: Kageroza and Nozomi. Urahara and Kon find Yushima's empty shell inside the Maggot's Nest and realize the entire conflict comes from those two fragments trying to become whole again. Meanwhile, the incomplete Soul Candy destabilizes Ichigo so badly that his Hollow form takes over and escapes.
Urahara and Kon locate Kageroza's hidden laboratory and find Nozomi inside a capsule while Urahara is forced to fight his own Reigai. Kon reaches Nozomi and refuses to abandon her, convincing her to help restore Ichigo even though she believes escaping is impossible. Before they can finish, the fusion of Kageroza and Nozomi completes and resurrects Oko Yushima as a whole soul.
Yushima emerges with both Kageroza and Nozomi's powers while the Hollowfied Ichigo attacks him without reason or control. Rukia, Renji, Uryu, Chad, and Orihime arrive and throw everything they have at Yushima, but his combined abilities let him break through their attacks. When Yushima targets Rukia, Ichigo's remaining instinct overrides the Hollow and he takes the blow meant for her.
Being struck by Yushima briefly connects Ichigo to Nozomi's consciousness and strips away his uncontrolled Hollow form, but it also leaves him powerless again. Kon reaches the battlefield carrying the completed Soul Candy prepared by Urahara and Mayuri, restoring Ichigo long enough for one final fight. Across Seireitei, the original captains realize the Reigai are fighting to protect Soul Society in their own way and begin battling beside their copies instead of treating them as empty imitations.
Ichigo returns to Bankai and exploits the one power Yushima cannot safely absorb: Hollow spiritual energy. Nozomi's consciousness resurfaces inside Yushima and helps sever the core binding the fusion together, while the Reigai sacrifice themselves to destroy the structure draining spirit particles from Soul Society. Ichigo breaks the fusion completely, leaving Kageroza and Nozomi separate again before both begin fading away.
Ichigo's temporarily restored Soul Reaper power is disappearing again, and Rukia and Uryu keep trying to stop him from exhausting what little remains on ordinary Hollow work. After spending one last normal day with his friends, Ichigo insists on fighting when a powerful Hollow appears and uses his final Getsuga Tensho beside Rukia. His ability to see spirits fades away afterward, and he thanks Rukia as she disappears from his sight, bringing their original partnership to its quiet end.

Seventeen months after defeating Aizen, Ichigo is a third-year high school student with no Soul Reaper powers and only the faintest ability to sense spirits. He stops a purse thief on his way home and goes back to the ordinary life he once claimed to want, but the calm feels incomplete after everything he has lost. The stolen bag's owner, Kugo Ginjo, watches from a distance and tells his companions that he has finally found Ichigo Kurosaki.
Ichigo and Uryu easily deal with the gang looking for revenge over the stolen bag, until Ichigo's boss Ikumi Unagiya drags him away for work. The client waiting at her shop is Ginjo, who asks Ichigo to investigate Isshin and hints that Karin has been visiting Urahara without telling him. Before leaving, Ginjo gives Ichigo an Xcution card and warns him to act before something happens to his family, while Uryu is attacked nearby by a mysterious man.
Uryu is hospitalized after the attack, and Ryuken confirms that the assailant was a spiritually powerful human rather than a Hollow or Soul Reaper. Ichigo becomes increasingly frustrated as Orihime, Chad, and even his own family keep information from him because he can no longer protect himself the way he once could. When the same attacker appears near Keigo and Mizuiro, Ichigo finally accepts that staying powerless will not keep his friends out of danger and contacts Xcution.

Kira's attempt to organize a friendly kite-flying event turns into a competition between divisions, while Rukia worries about performing a ceremonial dance once associated with her sister Hisana. Renji's clumsy effort to help ends in an argument, but Rukia eventually understands what he was trying to do and completes the dance successfully.
Ginjo blinds Ichigo during training and begins attacking him in earnest, even threatening Chad and Orihime to force Ichigo into relying on senses beyond sight. The cruelty makes Ichigo question whether Ginjo was ever helping him, until he learns to read Ginjo's spiritual presence and lands a clean strike. Ginjo ends the act once Ichigo's Fullbring reaches its completed form, admitting the threats were meant to push him over the final hurdle.
Ichigo begins refining his completed Fullbring while Xcution prepares to protect him from Tsukishima. Riruka searches for Chad and Orihime and is cut by Tsukishima, while Chad and Orihime find themselves unable to attack the man they know should be their enemy. Book of the End has inserted Tsukishima into their pasts so completely that their own memories now defend him.
Ichigo returns home after completing his Fullbring and finds Tsukishima casually sitting with Yuzu, Karin, and his friends as though he has always been part of their lives. Everyone except Ichigo treats Tsukishima as family, leaving Ichigo terrified that fighting him will look like an attack on the people he is trying to protect. Ginjo pulls Ichigo away and claims the rest of Xcution has been affected too, making himself the only ally Ichigo believes he still has.
Yukio leads Ichigo and Ginjo to Tsukishima's mansion, where Ichigo finds his friends and sisters happily gathered around the man he knows attacked them. Ichigo draws Tsukishima away and fights him alone, but Chad and Orihime intervene because their altered memories tell them Ichigo is trying to murder someone they love. For the first time since regaining power, Ichigo is strong enough to fight and completely unable to use that strength without hurting the people he came to protect.
Ichigo continues fighting Tsukishima while Ginjo holds off the Xcution members, and the pressure of having Chad and Orihime turned against him begins breaking Ichigo down. Uryu suddenly arrives and reveals that Ginjo, not Tsukishima, was the man who attacked him at the beginning of the arc. Ginjo then turns on Ichigo, explains that Tsukishima cut him twice so his original memories could later be restored, and steals the Fullbring Ichigo fought so hard to develop.
With his Fullbring stolen, Ichigo collapses into despair and chases Ginjo even though he has no power left to fight him. Rukia appears and drives a specially prepared sword through Ichigo's chest, restoring his Soul Reaper powers with spiritual energy contributed by the captains and lieutenants of the Gotei 13. Ichigo's first Getsuga Tensho in his new form tears through Tsukishima's mansion and makes clear that the power Ginjo stole was only one part of what Ichigo had regained.
Ichigo overwhelms Ginjo with his restored Soul Reaper power while Hitsugaya reveals that Ginjo was the first Substitute Soul Reaper before Ichigo. Ginjo shares the Fullbring he stole among the other Xcution members, and Yukio separates the battlefield into individual rooms so everyone can fight without interference. Kenpachi immediately kills Giriko, while the rest of the Soul Reapers pair off against Xcution.

Tsukishima cuts Senbonzakura and inserts himself into Byakuya's past, gaining knowledge of his techniques, habits, and weaknesses as if he had trained beside him for years. That advantage lets Tsukishima wound Byakuya badly, but Byakuya uses loose blades from Senbonzakura Kageyoshi in a way even Tsukishima's rewritten memories did not predict and pierces his chest. Elsewhere, Riruka traps Rukia inside a stuffed animal before abruptly disappearing into her body.
Ginjo tells Ichigo and Uryu the real purpose of the Substitute Soul Reaper badge: it allows Soul Society to monitor and regulate the human carrying it, and Ginjo believes that betrayal justifies everything he has done. Ichigo admits he already understood that Ukitake had not told him the whole truth, but chooses to trust Soul Society because of the people there who stood beside him. Ginjo releases Bankai, and the two Substitute Soul Reapers commit to their final clash.
Ichigo defeats Ginjo, while a dying Tsukishima makes one last attempt to kill him and is stopped when Riruka emerges from Rukia's body. The surviving members of Xcution go their separate ways, and Tsukishima dies after Shishigawara carries him away. Ichigo later enters Soul Society not to demand revenge, but to ask that Ginjo's body be returned to the Human World for burial, then accepts his place as Substitute Soul Reaper and returns to Karakura with Rukia seeing him off.
