A former Ororin Temple monk who arrives at Kame House on a rowboat, bribing Roshi with adult magazines to outshine his former temple bullies. Starting as Goku's sneaky, competitive rival during the grueling turtle-shell milk delivery runs, Krillin quickly becomes Goku's closest lifelong best friend. Lacking a nose and possessing incredible tactical martial intellect, Krillin uses clever tricks and agility to bridge power gaps on the World Tournament stage.

Goku finds Krillin dead immediately after the tournament and does exactly what his friends tell him not to do: he chases the killer while exhausted and furious. Tambourine beats him badly.
That failure matters. Goku's instinct has always been to run directly at the problem because being stronger usually makes that reasonable. King Piccolo's story repeatedly punishes that assumption. Roshi dies attempting the Mafuba. Chiaotzu is killed trying to stop Piccolo's wish. Shenron himself is destroyed after granting it.

Two students who started under Roshi together finally meet in a serious tournament match. Krillin knows Goku too well to fight him like a stranger, so he attacks habits and old weaknesses instead of pretending the raw power gap does not exist.
The Breakdown
The tail grab is the perfect example. It would have ended an earlier Goku. Here it only reveals that Goku trained the weakness away years ago. The fight becomes a progress report on both boys, not a friendship-ending rivalry.

The user draws latent internal ki into a tight, vibrating sphere between cupped hands at the hip before thrusting palms forward in a concentrated beam. Master Roshi spent 50 years perfecting the technique, which he used in Episode 8 to obliterate Fire Mountain.

General Blue follows Goku, Bulma and Krillin into the underwater pirate cave, survives the same hazards they do and nearly kills Goku with psychic restraint. Afterward he tracks them back to Kame House, steals their Dragon Balls and takes the Dragon Radar.

Why it matters
Blue makes the Red Ribbon threat feel persistent. He is not waiting in a tower for Goku to reach him; he pursues the heroes, learns from what they have and brings useful intelligence back to headquarters.
