Guts tracked down the Snake Baron, a terrifying Apostle ruling a local town, wielding his massive Dragonslayer and arm-cannon.
The Breakdown
The Snake Baron transformed into a giant armored cobra. Guts absorbed a heavy tail strike, loaded his prosthetic left arm cannon, and fired a point-blank blast through the monster's face before cutting him down.

A 15-year-old wandering Guts accepted a mercenary challenge against Bazuso, an armored giant who had slaughtered dozens of knights on the castle ramparts.
The Breakdown
Guts absorbed Bazuso's heavy axe blow on his broadsword, deliberately letting the axe blade fracture his guard before executing an upward vertical slash that shattered Bazuso's helmet and cleaved his skull in half.

After Guts defeated Corkus and Casca, Griffith challenged Guts to single combat to force the wild mercenary into joining the Band of the Hawk.
The Breakdown
Guts relied on heavy, kinetic broadsword cleaves, but Griffith used extreme fencing agility and pinpoint balance, stepping onto Guts' flying blade to disarm him and thrusting a saber point to Guts' throat.

Guts infiltrated Lord Julius' estate at night on Griffith's orders to execute the noble for the poisoned arrow attempt.
The Breakdown
Guts impaled Julius through the chest silently. Hearing someone enter, Guts instinctively struck in the dark, discovering too late he had accidentally killed Julius' young son, Adonis, leaving Guts deeply traumatized.

Guts and Griffith entered a subterranean castle vault to clear out an enemy unit, encountering Nosferatu Zodd, a legendary 300-year-old Apostle in giant horned beast form.
The Breakdown
Zodd shattered Guts' broadsword and crushed Griffith's ribs. Zodd was about to execute both men until he spotted the Crimson Behelit around Griffith's neck, abruptly stopping his assault and uttering a dark prophecy before flying through the stone roof.

Cornered at a river cliff, an ill Casca engaged General Adon while Guts held off a 100-man cavalry unit.
The Breakdown
Adon used a poisoned needle decoy. Casca overcame fever and fatigue, deflecting Adon's spear thrust with an iai-style sword parry and driving her blade through Adon's neck before fleeing down the ravine.

Guts stayed behind in a dark ravine to hold off an entire Tudor heavy cavalry division so an injured Casca could escape back to camp.
The Breakdown
Armed with his heavy broadsword, Guts fought continuously through the night. Utilizing single-stroke multi-cleaves, he slaughtered 100 heavily armored knights alone, earning the legendary title "The 100-Man Slayer."

During the final assault on Fortress Doldrey, Guts engaged General Boscogn, the supreme commander of Tudor's elite Purple Rhino Knights wielding a massive pole-axe.
The Breakdown
Boscogn's pole-axe shattered Guts' sword. From a distant ridge, Nosferatu Zodd hurled his own massive scimitar onto the field; Guts caught the flying blade in mid-air and executed a high-velocity horizontal swing that decapitated both Boscogn and his horse.

Episode 19 · Morning Snow Ridge · Decisive Guts Victory

Having achieved his dream of equal standing, Guts chose to leave the Band of the Hawk. Griffith intercepted him on a snowy ridge, stating that Guts could only win his freedom by force of arms.
The Breakdown
Unlike their first duel, Guts executed a single, perfectly timed heavy strike. His sword weight sheared straight through Griffith's saber and stopped a fraction of an inch from Griffith's neck, leaving Griffith shattered and sparking his tragic downfall.

Guts returned to help Casca rescue Griffith from Wyndham Castle's dungeon, engaging Silat and the elite Bakiraka clan of assassin mercenaries in subterranean tunnels.

Trapped inside the hellish dimension of the Eclipse, Guts fought frantically with a broken sword against an endless tide of monstrous Apostles to reach Casca and Griffith.
The Breakdown
Guts killed dozens of Apostles with a jagged broken blade until his arm was pinned in a demon's jaws. To reach Femto, Guts severed his own left arm at the elbow with his broken sword, before being saved alongside Casca by the Skull Knight.
