The father. Adoptive, former military, the man who built the family Saya woke up inside of. George is the show's opening argument that found family is real and worth everything. He does not have long. What he represents to all three of his children runs through the rest of the series as a weight the show keeps returning to long after he is gone. Blood+ earns its emotional stakes in the first handful of episodes and George is the reason.

For the first time in the story we experience Saya from the inside of the ordinary life she is being asked to leave. The coming war has to compete with something real.

Why it matters
Everything Red Shield asks of Saya has a cost because the audience knows what she would rather be protecting. The war interrupts a life before it becomes her purpose.
George is caught inside the same experimentation Red Shield has been warning about and asks Saya to do the thing no daughter should have to do.
What changed
Until this point, Saya can imagine the Chiropteran conflict as someone else's history. After George, the war has already entered her family and taken something it cannot give back.
George's phrase begins as reassurance inside an ordinary Okinawan family. By the finale, the family that repeats it has survived things George could never have protected them from.
Why it matters
"It'll work out somehow" is not a promise that nothing terrible will happen. Blood+ spends fifty episodes proving the opposite. It becomes a decision to keep living after terrible things have happened.
