ZAIED SPOILER!
ZA
Zaied comes from the part of Sosuke's life that Jindai High can never really understand. He knew Sosuke when the younger soldier was still fighting as Kashim in Helmajistan, serving alongside him during Sosuke's childhood in the guerrillas. When Mithril sends Sosuke back into the region, Zaied resurfaces on the opposing side and forces him to confront someone connected directly to that past. Their Arm Slave battle matters because Zaied is not simply another enemy pilot. He is living proof that the world Sosuke escaped did not disappear when he put on a school uniform.

Zaied is dangerous to Sousuke before either of them fires a shot because he remembers the child soldier called Kashim. He knows how Sousuke plans, how he reacts and how he used to survive.
The Breakdown
Zaied uses that familiarity to help Gauron's forces predict the Mithril team's movements. By Episode 17, the conflict becomes personal as Sousuke fights his former comrade while the rest of the mission collapses around them.
Why it matters
Most enemies test Sosuke's combat ability. Zaied tests whether the person living at Jindai High is actually different from the boy who grew up fighting in Helmajistan.
