RYOSUKE TAKAHASHI
RT
The brilliant, surgically precise leader of the Akagi RedSuns who commands the street racing world through his 'Fastest Street Racing Theory.' Driving a pristine white Mazda Savannah RX-7 (FC3S), Ryosuke is a medical student who views racing not as a hot-blooded brawl, but as a pure, mathematical optimization problem. He maps out opponent torque metrics, tire compounds, and psychological thresholds down to the fraction of a second, remaining entirely unflappable until he witnesses the unscientific, physics-shattering genius of the Akina Eight-Six.

1990S TOUGE SUBCULTURE //
Open page →SpeedStars, RedSuns and NightKids have names, stickers, leaders and home mountains, but nobody is handing out an official championship trophy.
Why it matters
Status travels by word of mouth. Beating the right driver on the right pass changes who shows up next, which is exactly how Takumi goes from anonymous delivery boy to the person every Gunma racer wants to measure himself against.
First Stage talks constantly about tires, suspension, power delivery and balance because the same modification is not equally useful on every course.
CARS & DRIVING TECHNIQUE //
Open page →Ryosuke treats his FC as part of a larger theory about repeatable speed. He studies opponents, adjusts the car and thinks about what the course will demand rather than chasing the biggest possible number.
A driver can be faster early and still lose if the tires are being asked to do too much for too long. First Stage repeatedly uses fading front-end grip and overheated tires to explain why a race changes late.
Why it matters
This is why Ryosuke spends so much time watching lines and predicting what another car will do several corners later. The race is happening to the tires even when the camera is focused on the drivers.

Open →Episode 8 · Akina · Impromptu run
Ryosuke and Nakazato use an impromptu run to measure one another before Takumi's battle with the NightKids leader.
The Breakdown
The important contrast is philosophical. Nakazato trusts the GT-R's grip and power while Ryosuke is already watching how the heavier car loads its tires and behaves through Akina's corners.
There is no need for a formal winner for Ryosuke to learn something useful.

Episodes 24–26 · Challenge, preparation & final Akina battle
Ryosuke has spent First Stage watching Takumi, studying the AE86 and thinking about how the Akina downhill changes over the length of a run.
The Breakdown
Unlike earlier challengers, Ryosuke does not arrive believing one car advantage will solve Takumi. He manages pace, watches tire condition and treats the race as a long problem.
The real climax is Takumi's motivation. By the end of the battle he is no longer the delivery driver who has to be talked into caring whether he wins.

FIRST STAGE STORY GUIDE //
Open page →Ryosuke has watched the AE86 through the entire stage, collected information and adjusted his own approach before the final challenge.
Why it matters
The climax is not 'best car versus old car.' It is the first time Takumi faces somebody who has spent the season learning how Takumi wins.
By the time Takumi races Ryosuke, the detached delivery driver from Episode 1 is no longer pretending the outcome means nothing to him.
What changed
First Stage does not finish by making Takumi a professional or giving him a grand career plan. It finishes by giving him something simpler and more important: a genuine desire to become better.
