HAMUSHI SPOILER!
HA
Hamushi is one of the Anten Seven introduced when Hazanko finally stops treating Gene as a nuisance and starts assigning elite assassins to the problem. Unlike Hanmyo or Leilong, she does not receive a full standalone episode before the Galactic Leyline. Her major battle comes inside the Leyline maze, where she confronts Gene directly with Tao magic strong enough to turn aside his ordinary attacks. The fight forces Gene to use one of the dangerous numbered Caster shells he acquired for exactly this kind of opponent. Hamushi is therefore useful beyond simply completing the Anten Seven roster: her confrontation is one of the clearest late-series demonstrations that Caster shells are not just flashy ammunition. Against high-level Tao magic, Gene has to reach for weapons that can hurt the person firing them almost as badly as the target.

Gene is on Tenrei because he knows ordinary ammunition may not be enough for the Galactic Leyline. He leaves with rare Caster shells created by the priests there.
Those shells are dangerous because the strongest effects can draw on the user's own life force when there is not enough mana available.

What changed
After Tenrei, Gene is carrying weapons capable of challenging the kind of Tao magic waiting at the Leyline, but using them is now part of the risk.
Why it matters
Episode 23 is not just the last comedy stop before the finale. It quietly loads the gun the ending will need.
