Saiyo Wong is the prisoner Gene deliberately gets himself locked up beside on Hecatoncheires because Wong possesses the information everyone has spent the series chasing: coordinates to the Galactic Leyline. He is held inside Gehenna Prison, where the planet's crushing gravity is as much part of the security system as the guards and machines. Wong does not trust Gene simply because they share a cell block, but escape gives them a reason to cooperate. Their jailbreak turns the prison's brutal environment against itself, and Wong keeps his side of the bargain after they get out by giving Gene the coordinate data. He is a one-episode character with an unusually large plot function. After twenty-one episodes of rumors, stolen technology and half-answers, Wong is the person who finally turns the Galactic Leyline from a legend into a destination.

Why it matters
Khan is a useful contrast to Gene. Gene knows far less about Melfina's design, but eventually learns that ignorance does not prevent him from respecting her choices.
