ENVY SPOILER!

EN

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood · Antagonist

Shape-shifter. Can assume any appearance with precision that makes him the homunculi's most effective infiltration asset and cruelest instrument. Sadistic, theatrical, genuinely invested in the pain of humans in a way that reads as personal rather than operational. Brotherhood eventually reveals why, and the why is one of the more quietly devastating character disclosures the series produces. His true form is enormous and monstrous. What he actually is underneath all of it is smaller than that. The confrontation with Edward that closes his arc is the show at its most unexpectedly compassionate.

Central Command Subterranean Corridors · Interrupted / Mustang Dissuaded

Driven into a vengeful fury after learning Envy murdered Maes Hughes, Mustang targeted Envy's eyes and tongue with pinpoint flame explosions, repeatedly evaporating Envy's giant monster form down to a tiny, helpless parasitic lizard.
The Breakdown
Before Mustang could deliver the final incinerating blow, Edward, Hawkeye, and Scar intervened to stop him from being consumed by hatred. Devastated by the realization that a human pitied him, Envy extracted his own Philosopher's Stone core and committed suicide.

Envy — The Shape-Shifter

SPOILER! Imitation as a weapon · jealousy underneath it Open →
Envy can imitate other people well enough to weaponize trust itself. That makes the ability more important than simply changing size or appearance: Envy can enter a scene wearing the face most likely to make somebody hesitate.

The larger monstrous form reveals the human souls trapped within the Philosopher's Stone powering Envy.
Why it matters
Envy spends the series sneering at human attachment while repeatedly exploiting it. The ending lands when Edward recognizes the contradiction: Envy does not despise human connection because it is worthless, but because humans have something Envy cannot stand wanting.
