Details & Synopsis
The 2003 series is the more interesting character study. Brotherhood is the better show. That tension is worth sitting with before you hit play, because Brotherhood earns its reputation the hard way, not by being darker or more surprising than its predecessor, but by being relentlessly, almost brutally well-constructed. The Elric brothers' original sin is established fast and the series never lets them, or you, forget it, even as the scale inflates from a single chimera in a country house to a conspiracy spanning an entire continent. What keeps it from collapsing under that weight is the same thing that saves all great shonen when it's working correctly: every political revelation lands hardest because of what it costs someone specific. No filler. Bone-dry pacing. Hiromu Arakawa's blueprint executed with a confidence that makes most other long-form adaptations look like they were guessing.

Roy Mustang vs. Lust

SPOILER!

3rd Laboratory Subterranean Compound · Decisive Mustang Victory

After Lust pierced Jean Havoc's spine and impaled Mustang's chest, Mustang used his gloves to cauterize his own wound with flame alchemy. Tracking Lust down, he carved a transmutation circle directly onto the back of his hand with a kunai.
The Breakdown
Mustang unleashed a continuous, high-intensity volley of fire blasts at point-blank range, incinerating Lust's physical body over and over until her Philosopher's Stone ran completely out of souls, burning her into ash.

Roy Mustang vs. Envy

SPOILER!

Central Command Subterranean Corridors · Interrupted / Mustang Dissuaded

Driven into a vengeful fury after learning Envy murdered Maes Hughes, Mustang targeted Envy's eyes and tongue with pinpoint flame explosions, repeatedly evaporating Envy's giant monster form down to a tiny, helpless parasitic lizard.
The Breakdown
Before Mustang could deliver the final incinerating blow, Edward, Hawkeye, and Scar intervened to stop him from being consumed by hatred. Devastated by the realization that a human pitied him, Envy extracted his own Philosopher's Stone core and committed suicide.

King Bradley (Wrath) vs. Scar

SPOILER!

Central Command Courtyard · Scar Decisive Victory

A brutal duel between a critically wounded King Bradley (having survived a train bombing and tank assault) and the Ishvalan avenger Scar. Bradley's Ultimate Eye allowed him to slice through Scar's destruction alchemy with ease.
The Breakdown
Scar revealed he had tattooed his brother's Reconstruction alchemy array onto his left arm in addition to Destruction on his right. Mid-strike, sunlight blinded Bradley's wounded eye, allowing Scar to activate Reconstruction to transmute spike pillars directly through Bradley's arms, fatally disarming him.

Edward Elric vs. Father (God Absorbed)

SPOILER!

Central Command Ruins · Edward Decisive Victory

With Father's control over Amestrian alchemy broken after Scar activates his brother's reverse transmutation circle, Father unleashes desperate energy blasts. Alphonse then sacrifices the soul binding that keeps him in the armor, allowing Edward's original right arm to return.
The Breakdown
Edward is not suddenly stronger than Father in some clean power-scaling sense. Father is already destabilizing, burning through the souls and power keeping his stolen godlike state together while the surviving cast keeps forcing him to spend more. With his right arm restored, Edward finally gets close enough to turn that collapse into a physical beating, driving Father to the point where the power he stole can no longer be contained.

King Bradley vs. Ling Yao (Greed) & Fu

SPOILER!

Central Command Gates · Tactical Bradley Victory (Fu & Buccaneer Deaths)

King Bradley single-handedly cut through an Amestrian tank and military infantry to reclaim Central Command, engaging Ling Yao (possessing Greed's Ultimate Shield) and the bodyguard Fu in high-speed swordplay.
The Breakdown
Fu attempted a suicide bombing with dynamite, which Bradley sliced away instantly. Captain Buccaneer and Fu managed to mortally wound Bradley at the cost of their lives, creating the single opening Scar needed later.

Olivier & Alex Armstrong vs. Sloth

SPOILER!

Central Command Throne Room · Armstrong Alliance Victory

Major General Olivier Mira Armstrong and Major Alex Louis Armstrong joined forces inside Central Command to halt Sloth's relentless rampage, combining precise rapier strikes with heavy Combat Alchemy stone pillars.
The Breakdown
Sloth unveiled his true high-speed momentum, battering both siblings. Joined by Izumi Curtis and Sig Curtis, the group pounded Sloth continuously until his Philosopher's Stone ran out of regenerative energy, causing him to dissolve into dust.

Alphonse Elric vs. Pride & Solf J. Kimblee

SPOILER!

Central Command Outskirts · Alphonse Tactical Victory

Equipped with a Philosopher's Stone supplied by Heinkel, Alphonse used circle-less alchemy to combat both Pride's shadows and Kimblee's explosive alchemy simultaneously.
The Breakdown
Alphonse trapped Pride inside a dirt dome to block shadow light sources, while Kimblee was mortally wounded by Heinkel biting his throat. Kimblee's dying consciousness was absorbed by Pride, later intervening from within Pride's soul to help Edward win.

Scar vs. Solf J. Kimblee

SPOILER!

Northern Rail Train · Decisive Scar Victory

The Ishvalan avenger Scar confronted the Crimson Alchemist Kimblee atop a speeding train bound for Briggs. Kimblee attempted to use his palm-drawn transmutation circles to detonate the train cars, but Scar's high-speed close-quarters combat closed the distance before Kimblee could weave his hands.
The Breakdown
Scar used his right arm's Destruction alchemy to shatter Kimblee's transmutation alchemy array and impale Kimblee through the side with a steel pipe, leaving Kimblee mortally wounded on the snowy tracks until the Homunculi retrieved him.

Edward Elric vs. Greed (First Encounter)

SPOILER!

Devil's Nest Subterranean Lair · Edward Tactical Victory

Edward invaded the Devil's Nest to rescue Alphonse, engaging Greed in single combat. Greed activated his Ultimate Shield, rendering his entire physical body completely impervious to Edward's automail blade and earth transmutation strikes.
The Breakdown
Edward analyzed the chemical makeup of Greed's diamond-hard graphite shell. Realizing it was composed of carbon, Ed used alchemy to alter the carbon atomic bonds, transmuting Greed's diamond skin into soft, brittle graphite and allowing Ed to land devastating physical blows.

Roy Mustang vs. Gluttony

SPOILER!

Central Outskirts Forest · Mustang Tactical Victory

Mustang, Hawkeye, and Ling Yao engaged Gluttony in a dark forest after learning of Maes Hughes' murder. Gluttony attempted to devour the squad, but Mustang utilized the spark ignition from his gloves paired with Hawkeye's sniper cover to isolate Gluttony.
The Breakdown
Mustang repeatedly detonated high-concentration flame blasts directly over Gluttony's body, destroying him over a dozen times until Gluttony's Philosopher's Stone was temporarily drained of regenerative energy, forcing Envy to step in and retreat.

Van Hohenheim vs. Father

SPOILER!

Central Command Subterranean Core · Strategic Draw / Counter-Trap Set

Van Hohenheim confronted his original "twin" Father beneath Central Command, attempting to destroy Father using his own Philosopher's Stone souls. Father attempted to drain Hohenheim's body and stone core completely.
The Breakdown
Hohenheim revealed he had spent centuries conversing individually with all 536,329 souls inside his body, gaining their conscious cooperation. The souls infiltrated Father's physical shell from within, breaking Father's body-holding matrix and forcing Father to shed his human form.

Wrath (Bradley) vs. Fuhrer's Gate Guards & Central Infantry

SPOILER!

Central Command Main Gate · Absolute Bradley Domination

Returning to Central Command after surviving a train sabotage, King Bradley single-handedly assaulted the heavily fortified front gates held by the Briggs rebellious forces and Captain Buccaneer.
The Breakdown
Armed with a single broadsword and his Ultimate Eye, Bradley sliced through anti-tank artillery shells, detonated incoming grenades in mid-air, dismantled an armored tank with his blade, and cut through dozens of soldiers in seconds without taking a single scratch.
