BORMA

Borma
BO

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex · Cyber-Intelligence / Explosives Specialist

Borma is one of Section 9's regular support and field operatives, often working alongside Ishikawa on cyber-intelligence and data gathering.

Before joining Section 9 he served in the military and worked with explosives, which makes him particularly useful when an investigation moves from networks to bombs, weapons or physical evidence.

His large build and artificial eyes make him look like another heavy combat specialist in the Batou mold, but most of his screen time is much quieter. Borma is usually part of the investigative machinery that keeps Section 9 informed and moving.

That is exactly why he belongs in the roster. Section 9 is not only Motoko, Batou and whoever happens to be holding a gun in the foreground. Borma is one of the people who makes the organization function.

Borma & Paz: The Work Between the Raids

Cyber Support · Explosives · Undercover Investigation

Borma and Paz spend much of SAC doing the work that makes Section 9 feel like an organization instead of a collection of lead characters.

Borma supports cyber-intelligence work alongside Ishikawa and brings military and explosives experience when an investigation turns toward bombs, weapons or physical evidence.

Paz is better suited to work that requires disappearing into the street. He handles informants, surveillance, undercover investigation and close combat, especially in places where a heavily armed Section 9 team would announce itself immediately.
Why it matters
Neither man needs to dominate an episode to justify being there. Section 9 succeeds because specialists can take over a piece of an investigation without the entire operation having to revolve around the Major.
