DUUZ DELAX REX
DD
Duuz Delax Rex appears in "Law and Lawlessness" as the hard-nosed Saurian officer commanding the private frontier security force that arrests the Outlaw Star crew on suspicion of piracy. Gene reacts about as well as Gene reacts to anybody with authority, and Duuz initially sees the armed grappler ship and its outlaw captain as proof enough that they are criminals. The episode forces both men to revise the easy version of that judgment when a pirate attack turns the prisoners into useful allies. Gene helps rescue Duuz, and the Outlaw Star crew fights beside the security force rather than against it. By the end, Duuz is willing to let them leave despite the awkward questions surrounding the XGP. This bio deliberately covers only his Outlaw Star appearance and does not import the expanded Angel Links version of the character.

Open →Myth: Outlaw Star treats every armed freelancer outside the law as the same kind of criminal.
The series keeps separating three things that can look identical from the outside: outlaw, pirate and hired professional.
Gene carries illegal-looking weapons, flies an armed grappler ship and takes dangerous jobs, but episode 19 makes the distinction explicit when a security force arrests the crew as suspected pirates. When an actual pirate attack arrives, Gene's crew fights beside the people who arrested them.

Why it matters
Outlaw Star is not about Gene becoming respectable. It is about him deciding what kind of outlaw he is willing to be.
The ship, the guns and the freedom do not answer that question. What he does when nobody is paying him does.
