WAGNARD SPOILER!
WA
Wagnard is the dark sorcerer whose ambitions eventually become even more dangerous than Marmo's military conquest. Where Beld and Ashram pursue power through kingdoms, armies and relics, Wagnard is willing to reach into forces that should remain buried. In the OVA he seeks the Scepter of Domination and targets Deedlit because the life force of a high elf can fuel his plan. His real goal is the resurrection of Kardis, the goddess of destruction beneath Marmo. Wagnard kidnaps Deedlit and begins the ritual, then survives being cut down by Ashram long enough to kill the Black Knight before finally dying himself. Even in death, his ritual nearly brings catastrophe to Lodoss.
WAGNARD THROUGH THE ARCHIVE //
THE WAR OF HEROES //
Open page →The War of Heroes ends the immediate drive to conquer Lodoss, but almost none of its deeper problems disappear. Fahn and Beld are dead. Ashram inherits Marmo's military legacy. Karla remains active in a new body. Wagnard is still pursuing power beneath Marmo. Parn loses people he admired and then has to keep moving almost immediately.
That unfinished quality is important to the OVA's second half. The story does not reset after the armies withdraw. The consequences of the war lead directly into Ghim's confrontation with Karla, the hunt for the Scepter of Domination, the battle with Shooting Star and Wagnard's attempt to revive Kardis.

What changed
The conflict stops being a war between kingdoms and becomes a struggle over the forces the war left loose.
