SASUKE UCHIHA
SU
Sasuke begins Shippuden under Orochimaru, having traded life in the Leaf for the power he believes he needs to kill Itachi. He is colder, faster and far more dangerous than when Team 7 last saw him, using the Sharingan, Chidori variants and a sword with unnerving control. His hatred of Itachi gives him direction, but almost every major turn in his story comes from learning that the truth behind his clan is more complicated than he was told. Sasuke forms Hebi, later Taka, and repeatedly changes what he thinks revenge is supposed to accomplish. Naruto refuses to stop treating him as a friend, turning their rivalry into a fight over whether Sasuke's pain has to decide the rest of his life.
SASUKE THROUGH THE ARCHIVE //
HEBI / TAKA: FORMATION, PURPOSE & COLLAPSE //
Open page →Formation · Hunt for Itachi · Four Specialists, One Objective
After turning on Orochimaru, Sasuke does not return to Konoha and he does not stay alone. He builds Hebi around the one job that has governed most of his life: find Itachi Uchiha and kill him. The team is small because it is supposed to move fast, work outside the villages, and give Sasuke capabilities he does not have by himself.
Why it matters
Hebi is not a replacement Team 7. Sasuke recruits people who can help solve the practical problems between him and Itachi, while each recruit gets enough freedom to pursue a reason of their own for coming with him.
Original Objective Complete · Team Purpose Collapses · Sasuke Learns the Truth
Hebi was created to find Itachi. Once Itachi is dead, the job the team was built to perform is finished. Sasuke should have reached the end of the road. Instead, Obito's account of the Uchiha massacre gives him a new target and turns the achievement he spent years chasing into the beginning of another revenge campaign.
What changed
This is the clean break between Hebi and Taka. The membership does not need to change because Sasuke does. The team survives its original mission, then gets handed a completely different one.
First Akatsuki Assignment · Mutual Rescue · Sasuke Cannot Do It Alone
The Eight-Tails mission strips away the idea that Taka is just Sasuke plus three assistants. Killer B overwhelms him badly enough that survival becomes a team effort. Karin keeps people alive, Jugo gives up part of himself to repair Sasuke, and Suigetsu puts his own body between the team and Gyuki. Sasuke, in turn, keeps choosing to pull them back together instead of abandoning the mission's casualties.
Why it matters
The Combat Ledger can explain how the fight works. The important thing here is what it reveals: Taka stays alive because the four have become mutually dependent, and Sasuke is still capable of valuing that bond.
Tracking · Combat Support · Orochimaru Network Access
Sasuke does not recruit three interchangeable fighters. Suigetsu gives the group another dangerous combatant with knowledge of Orochimaru's world and his own reason to travel. Karin gives Sasuke the sensor he needs for a search built around locating people who do not want to be found. Jugo adds overwhelming force, but also joins because Sasuke is tied to Kimimaro, the person Jugo trusted most.
Why it worked
The useful part is the combination. Hebi can search, split up, survive contact with high-level enemies, and regroup without asking a village for intelligence or support. Sasuke has effectively built his own tiny rogue-nin network.
Same Four Members · New Name · New Enemy
Sasuke renames Hebi as Taka and redirects the group toward Konoha. Nothing about the roster changes. Everything about the reason for keeping the roster together does. Hebi existed to reach Itachi. Taka exists because learning why Itachi died leaves Sasuke convinced that the village itself must answer for it.
What changed
The rename is a headspace marker. Sasuke is no longer the younger brother trying to kill Itachi. He is the survivor deciding what Itachi's sacrifice means, and for this part of the story he decides it means revenge against Konoha.
Revenge Narrows · Team Structure Erodes · Karin Becomes Expendable
The closer Sasuke gets to Danzo, the less the team matters beside the target. The restraint and mutual dependence visible against Killer B begin disappearing. Suigetsu and Jugo are left behind in the chaos, and when Danzo takes Karin hostage Sasuke is willing to drive an attack through her to reach him.
What changed
Hebi was built because Sasuke needed other people. Taka survived Killer B because those people saved one another. At the summit, revenge has narrowed Sasuke's world enough that a teammate can become acceptable collateral.
Distributed Search · Akatsuki Interference · Hebi Operates Independently
Finding Itachi is the first proof that Hebi is more than three people following Sasuke down a road. The team spreads out to gather information, works through the remains of Orochimaru's network, and keeps moving even when Akatsuki deliberately gets in the way. Sasuke finally has people extending his reach instead of slowing him down.
Why it worked
Everyone understands the mission even if they do not share Sasuke's obsession. Sasuke wants Itachi. The others only need their own reasons to keep moving in the same direction.
Temporary Alignment · Eight-Tails Assignment · Different End Goals
Taka works with Akatsuki because the arrangement is useful to Sasuke, not because the four suddenly become believers in Akatsuki's cause. Obito gives Sasuke information, direction, and a path toward the people he now blames for Itachi's life. In return, Taka is sent after the Eight-Tails.
Why it worked
This is cooperation, not ideological conversion. Obito needs Sasuke pointed somewhere useful. Sasuke needs access and leverage. Both sides believe they are using the other, which is exactly why the arrangement can function without genuine trust.
A Team Built Around Sasuke · Strongest When the Goal Left Room for People
Hebi and Taka are the same four people, but they are not the same team in practice. Hebi has a narrow objective and enough space for everyone to keep their own motives. Early Taka survives because those relationships have become real enough to matter. Later Taka begins coming apart when Sasuke's revenge stops leaving room for anyone who is not the target.
Why it matters
That is why the rename is worth tracking as more than trivia. The roster stays almost perfectly stable while the purpose, the leadership, and Sasuke's willingness to value the people beside him change underneath it.
Shared Risk · Mutual Dependence · More Than a Search Party
Hebi begins as a practical arrangement, but the longer the four operate together the less clean that description becomes. They argue, split up, cover for one another, and repeatedly choose to regroup. Sasuke still talks and acts like the mission is what matters, but he is once again functioning inside a team whether he wants to name that attachment or not.
Why it matters
That contradiction gives the later collapse its weight. Sasuke can insist people are tools while still behaving like someone who has started depending on them. Taka only hurts as a story because Hebi first proves that he is capable of building those connections again.
MANGEKYŌ & SUSANOO MECHANICS //
Open page →Close-Blood Transplant · Vision Restored · Mangekyō Use Stabilized
The Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan is created when a Mangekyō user successfully receives the eyes of a close blood relative who also awakened Mangekyō. Madara and Sasuke reach the state through their brothers' eyes. The new pattern combines traits of both Mangekyō designs, and the progressive blindness that made sustained use self-destructive is removed.
What changed
Sasuke before the transplant can feel his vision collapsing under repeated Amaterasu and Susanoo use. After receiving Itachi's eyes, those same classes of techniques stop carrying the countdown toward blindness that defined his original Mangekyō.
Susanoo Is a Progression, Not Four Universal Levels
Open →Partial Manifestation → Humanoid Avatar → Armored / Complete Forms
The anime makes Susanoo look like a transformation ladder, but the useful rule is looser: users can manifest different amounts of the avatar depending on need, mastery and stamina. Ribcages, skeletal torsos, humanoid forms, armor and complete-body manifestations describe recognizable levels of development, not four identical forms every Uchiha must unlock in exactly the same way.
Fast Manifestation · Localized Protection · Limbs Without a Full Body
A user does not need to summon the entire avatar to benefit from Susanoo. Ribs can appear around the body as an emergency shield, while skeletal arms or a partial torso can attack and defend without the enormous scale of later forms. Sasuke repeatedly uses these partial manifestations because they can be brought out quickly as the situation changes.
How you can tell
The user remains clearly visible inside an incomplete cage of chakra ribs or bones. There is no fully enclosed humanoid body yet, and individual arms or sections may manifest independently.
Outer Armor · Larger Avatar · Greater Cost & Battlefield Presence
Further development adds heavy outer layers and armor around the humanoid construct, increasing the amount of chakra standing between the user and an opponent. Sasuke's rapid progression through these forms during the Five Kage Summit is also a warning about the original Mangekyō: the stronger and more continuously he forces Susanoo to become, the faster his eyes deteriorate.
What changed
Susanoo stops functioning like a shield wrapped tightly around one shinobi and begins occupying the battlefield as a combatant in its own right.
Personal Dōjutsu · Extreme Chakra Cost · Vision Begins to Fail
Awakening the Mangekyō changes more than the eye pattern. Its users gain exceptionally powerful techniques that are tied to their individual eyes, but repeated use carries a physical price the ordinary Sharingan does not: strain, bleeding, worsening vision and eventually blindness. The eye becomes stronger at the same time that using it makes keeping that power harder.
Why it matters
Mangekyō is one of Naruto's clearest power systems built around deterioration. Itachi and Sasuke are not simply deciding when to spend chakra; every major use pushes an already limited resource closer to permanent failure.
Left / Right Eye Functions · User-Specific Abilities · One Pair, More Than One Power
Mangekyō abilities are not one universal technique package. The powers attached to a user's eyes can differ between the left and right eye and differ completely between users. Itachi's pair expresses Tsukuyomi and Amaterasu, Sasuke develops Amaterasu and Kagutsuchi, while Obito's two Kamui eyes apply the same space-time principle at different ranges.
How you can tell
When an ability is genuinely tied to one Mangekyō eye, the story consistently treats possession and condition of that specific eye as meaningful. Susanoo behaves differently because it is unlocked through the pair but manifests from the user's chakra rather than firing from one eye.
Skeleton Gains Form · Greater Reach · User-Specific Weapons Appear
As more chakra is committed, the skeletal frame gains a recognizable humanoid body and much greater offensive reach. This is also where the differences between users become impossible to treat as one universal moveset: Itachi's Susanoo carries the Totsuka Blade and Yata Mirror, while Sasuke's develops ranged weapons and attacks suited to his own fighting style.
How you can tell
The construct is no longer only exposed ribs and bones. A shaped torso, head and arms surround the user, but it has not yet become the enormous free-standing complete-body warrior associated with the highest manifestations.
Full-Scale Warrior · Independent Mobility · Landscape-Level Strikes
At its highest complete manifestation, Susanoo becomes a colossal full-bodied warrior rather than an enlarged shell around the caster. Madara demonstrates the scale brutally: unsheathing the avatar's sword is enough to reshape the battlefield. Sasuke later develops his own complete form as his ocular power continues to evolve.
How you can tell
The user occupies a protected position inside a gigantic, fully formed humanoid avatar that can stand and move as a complete body. Wings and exact armor design vary by manifestation, so silhouette and scale are more reliable identifiers than one universal costume.
Traumatic Loss Is the Pattern; deliberate murder is not a universal ritual.
The Uchiha history around Mangekyō turns grief into a dangerous instruction manual. Characters come to believe that killing someone close is the route to power, but the actual awakenings shown in the story are tied to overwhelming emotional trauma and loss, not a standardized requirement that the future user personally murder a best friend.
Why it matters
That misconception is part of the clan's tragedy. A power awakened through grief becomes something later generations can misread as requiring violence, helping the pursuit of the eye create exactly the kind of loss that awakens it.

Hebi Formation Saga · Orochimaru's Hideout · Decisive Sasuke Victory
With Orochimaru's current host body failing, Sasuke turns on his mentor before the body-transfer ritual can begin, cutting through the weakened Sannin and forcing him to reveal his true white-serpent form.
The Breakdown
Orochimaru drags Sasuke into the mental dimension used for Living Corpse Reincarnation, but Sasuke's Sharingan reverses the takeover and suppresses Orochimaru inside his own consciousness.
Akatsuki Pursuit Saga · Forest Encounter · Interrupted / Deidara Duel Setup
Hebi's search for Itachi collides with Deidara and Tobi, turning a scouting encounter into a brief team skirmish before Sasuke and Deidara peel away into the fight both of them actually want.
The Breakdown
Tobi's interference keeps Suigetsu and Jūgo occupied while Deidara takes to the air, escalating his opening clay attacks into the C2 Dragon assault that defines the ensuing one-on-one duel.
Three-Tails / Hebi Hunt Saga · Forest Wasteland · Sasuke Victory (Deidara C0 Suicide)
Deidara tested Sasuke's Sharingan using C2 dragon bombs and underground minefields planted by Tobi. Sasuke used Lightning Release to disarm Deidara's Earth-based clay.
The Breakdown
Driven mad by Sasuke's stoic refusal to acknowledge his "art," Deidara unleashed his ultimate suicide technique, C0, detonating a 10-kilometer anti-matter blast. Sasuke survived by summoning Manda, trapping him in genjutsu, and using him as a spatial blast shield.
Fated Uchiha Saga · Uchiha Hideout Fortress · Sasuke Pyrrhic Victory (Itachi Death)
An apocalyptic duel starting with high-level Sharingan Genjutsu and Kirin lightning strikes, culminating in Itachi summoning the skeletal Susanoo with the Totsuka Blade to seal Orochimaru out of Sasuke's curse mark.
The Breakdown
Itachi fought while nearly blind and terminally ill, intentionally pacing the fight to push Sasuke to his absolute limit, purge Orochimaru, and seal Amaterasu inside Sasuke's eye before dying with a forehead poke.
Unfilled Jinchūriki Hunt Saga · Hidden Cloud Valley · Killer B Strategic Escape
Sasuke led Taka to capture the Eight-Tails, but Killer B overwhelmed Sasuke's Sharingan using his eccentric Seven-Blade Acrobat Style and Version 2 Bijuu Cloak.
The Breakdown
Killer B mortally wounded Sasuke twice (requiring Jugo's flesh transfer and Karin's chakra healing to save him). When Sasuke unlocked Amaterasu to burn Gyūki, Killer B used a severed tentacle decoy to fake his capture and slip away to enjoy a rap vacation.
Five Kage Summit Saga · Samurai Meeting Hall · Interrupted / Sasuke Extraction
Sasuke crashed the neutral summit to assassinate Danzo, engaging Raikage A's Lightning Armor, Mei's Acid Mist, and Onoki's Particle Style in rapid succession.

Five Kage Summit Saga · Summit Escape Route · Obito Victory / Both Captured
As Danzō flees the summit with his two Root bodyguards, Obito intercepts the group and forces Fū and Torune to hold him off while Danzō prepares for Sasuke.
The Breakdown
Fū and Torune quickly deduce the timing weakness in Kamui, and Torune's nano-scale insects contaminate Obito's arm when he makes contact; Obito discards the affected arm, exploits the opening created by their counterattack, and removes both men with Kamui.
Five Kage Summit Saga · Samurai Bridge Outpost · Sasuke Victory (Danzo Death)
Sasuke confronted Danzo on the bridge, forcing Danzo to unleash his arm embedded with ten Sharingan eyes to repeatedly execute Izanagi, rewriting his deaths in real time.

Fourth Shinobi War Saga · Wasteland Front · Alliance Victory (Juubito Defeated)
Obito absorbed the Ten-Tails to achieve god-like Jinchūriki form, rendering standard ninjutsu useless via Truth-Seeker Orbs. Naruto (Senjutsu Kurama Avatar) and Sasuke (Susanoo-Armored Kurama) combined forces.
The Breakdown
Tobirama and Minato used Flying Raijin to teleport Senjutsu-infused Rasengans directly past Obito's Orbs. The entire Allied Force grabbed chakra ropes to pull the nine Tailed Beasts out of Obito's body, stripping him of the Ten-Tails.
Fourth Shinobi War Saga · Kaguya Gravity/Lava Dimensions · Team 7 Victory (Kaguya Sealed)
Reconstructed Team 7 engaged the primordial chakra progenitor across multiple parallel dimensions, with Kakashi utilizing dual-Mangekyo Kamui Raikiri and Obito sacrificing his body to absorb Kaguya's All-Killing Ash Bones.
