Naruto: Shippuden · Major Antagonist / Akatsuki Uchiha

Itachi enters Shippuden as the man Sasuke has built his entire life around killing: the Uchiha prodigy who massacred their clan and joined the Akatsuki. His Mangekyo Sharingan gives him Tsukuyomi, Amaterasu and Susanoo, making even brief encounters with him dangerous. The truth revealed after his death completely changes what Sasuke thought he understood. Itachi carried out the massacre under pressure from Leaf leadership to prevent an Uchiha coup and spared Sasuke because he could not kill his younger brother. Reanimated during the Fourth Shinobi World War, Itachi finally speaks to Sasuke without maintaining the villain role he constructed for him. He then helps stop Kabuto's Edo Tensei, leaving Sasuke with truth instead of another order about how to live.

Itachi & Kisame: The Pair That Barely Needs Managing

Open →

Mutual Respect · Restraint & Force · Long-Running Partnership

Itachi and Kisame are unusually functional by Akatsuki standards. Kisame respects Itachi's ability and judgment, while Itachi rarely needs to control him through threats or personality management. Their methods are also complementary: Itachi is precise and economical, while Kisame can turn a failed quiet approach into overwhelming force.
Why it worked
Neither man needs the other to become his friend. What they have is professional trust, which is far rarer inside Akatsuki and often more useful.
